I ordered a VAIO Z series with i7 620M chip thinking that it was a Quad core Intel chip. I discovered this morning that is a Dual Core chip. At first I was bummed and was thinking of calling SonyStyle this morning to see if I could change my order altogether. After researching a bit more....this chip apparently has performance close to quad core chips, (and in some tests it is faster), with much less drain on the battery life.

As I placed my order I asked about the battery life with the large capacity battery option. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the life expectancy with this configuration is approximately 8 hours! So, I have ordered the laptop of my dreams...a high end performer with great battery life.

    Happy Camper here.

Its dual cores, and with the I7 i think you will get less than that on the battery, just because it uses a bit more power.
Those 8 hours are prob with the lowest cpu and loweest settings and screen brightness turned all the way down

Yeah....I bet it's not all that they said. I hope to get at least six hours out of it though. I'll report the results after I get it.

The 620's turboboost goes all the way up to 3.33Ghz... much higher than any of the quad i7's. If you aren't doing anything like professional video editing or music editing where 8 cores will really make a difference, then the 4 threads of the 620 should be plenty fast. It'll spank the top end core 2 duo.
