    Hi All
I'm confronted with a serious problem and hope someone will come to my rescue. The problem I have is, I have a sony vaio laptop and the keyboard is not working.

This is how I created the problem (I guess)
I have several user accounts and I wanted to disable all but my account (I'm the administrator) and I did the following thinking I would achieve what I want. I navigated to the following registry key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

and in the right-pane, created a new DWORD value named HideFastUserSwitching and set value to 1.

and when I rebooted the machine at the Welcome screen none of the keys seems to be working. the whole keyboard stopped working. I managed to login using the On-Screen keyboard.

This is what I did so far ...

first of all I checked if theres a fault with the keyboard itself but its not a problem with the keyboard and its a software issue. This is what I did to confirm that.
Start -> Control Panel -> Keyboard -> Hardware -> Properties (Standard PS/2 keyboard) -> Driver -> Driver Details
There are 2 drivers available namely i8042prt.sys & kbdclass.sys. I selected kbdclass.sys and clicked OK and then the keyboard works but whenever I press Num lock or Caps Lock the keyboard freezes and stops working completely. For the keyboard to work I have to do the above step.

    - I tried to uninstall the device and install again but no joy.

    - tried to rollback the system to a previous restore point but no joy. (restored successfully but problem still persist)

    - Tried pressing Fn + Scr Lk , Shift + Scr Lk - still no joy.

    - tried to download keyboard drivers from Sony Website but couldn't find correct drivers.

    My system specs
    Laptop Model : Sony VAIO - VPCEB1MOE
Operation System : Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1 (Build 7601)

Is there anything else I could try to solve this problem without installing windows again ?? hope someone can help.
