I just had to send my Sony VAIO SZ off to service because apparently there was something wrong with the m/b.
Unfortunately, the service is rather slack here in Australia. The Sony Central in Sydney told me it would take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to get it fixed which was very dissappointing since this is a quite an important business tool.
I'm wondering, how long does an average service in the US take? Is it as bad as this?
P.S. I only had to repair my Japanese purchased VAIO FS once in Japan. The service was outstanding. My LCD lid latch broke and they sent a courier company to properly pick up the system and wrap it up extremely well. Fixed and delivered in 3 days. Thats called good service.

my friend sent his TXN15N in, to the service center in San Diego, and it was pretty quick. I think he was without it for a week?

The TAT for service in US is 7-10 working days not inlcuding transit of delivery and ship back . It will lessen the time if part is available and takes longer maybe for a fewdays if parts will be orderd on a different location.

Mine was pretty quick. The box was overnighted to my address and the shipping to Sony was overnight as well. The repair was done within three days and then it was overnighted back to me.
I even left a note saying not to reformat the machine and they actually trusted me on it. The replaced the faulty part (the optical drive), and now it works like a charm.
The service representative on the phone will try to get you to do an FFR (full factory reset) to solve the problem. If you're sure this isn't necessary (and for any software problem it's the first thing the service center will try) then just tell the person you've already attempted this. After that, be sure to note on the service inventory form (I wrote it in three places, very clearly) that you don't want your computer reformatted.
Good luck,
Peter
