    Hi,

I have this system, small but speed is ok; it came with Windows Vista 64 bit and free upgrade to Windows 7 and 4 GB of RAM.

Does anyone know if I can upgrade it to 8 GM of RAM? -- I've not been able to find if this is possible and I'd appreciate an answer.

The real question is why you need more than 4GB.

I believe people have been able to do so, but you need RAM that draws very little power.
And I'm not sure if you can get more than 6GB to work.

But sgogeta4 is right - why do you need more than 4GB of RAM?

The latest Vaio Z models officially support 8gb of ram, and can be configured so from Sony.

    OK, thanks for all responses.
Since the little --yet practical-- system came with Vista 64, it'll use more than 3.5 GB; the more RAM i figure the better it will do when using big files.

As for the RAM that draws little power, the questions is now; does anyone know where I can get some?

Reason is I've abandoned primarily and while on the road HAULING "typical 15, 17 or larger systems" in lieu of portability.
Given the nature of what I do, I seldom need 6 to 7 GM of RAM active in a couple of programs; hence I'd like to set the system up to be able to use more than 4 ...

    Peace to all!

You can get 4 GB sticks of RAM from any computer shop now (Newegg.com). But it's a complete waste of money at this point.

Thanks for the tip; I shall try and report back.

So far I can say that it is a nice ultraportable (13.1) and FAST (relatively) system; Vista (AKA blindness) works OK, Linux 64 bit flies...

To keep Vista 64 bit which consumes a LOT of RAM 6 to 8 GB will likely be the norm, Xp is very fast but going the way of the dodo

Vista doesn't require that much memory. But if you have that much, it might as well use it (unused memory is useless). Unless you're working with massive calculations and 3D work, there is very little reason to need more than 4GB.

I use 1 GB of memory on idle and 2.3 GB when i play games. 4 GB is enough...
