    Hi Everyone,

Just got my Sony VGN-FW11E delivered today and i must say WOW, i love it. I always used and bought Acer laptops but never again would i go for an Acer, Sony much better build quality, more stylish, sleek and fantastic hardware.

    Anyway.....

I was delighted to find loads of software on the laptop which i was going to buy which has now saved me a fortune. Sadly there is some things like McAfee, Office etc that i had to uninstall because i did not want them.

Is there a way i can install Vista and choose what software etc i want to install? , I just do not fancy having to uninstall stuff everytime i use recovery discs.

My only downfall is that i wish Sony put it all disc so users can choose what to and not install.

    Thank you,
    CG

You can do a clean install and then load up the drivers and applications thereafter. but you cannot recover from the recovery disks and selectively choose what and what not to restore.

When I say can't I meant can't without hacking the data on the recovery disks. which I am sure can be done but time consuming.

Yes you can install Windows and then drivers and software from the internet and recovery dvd (you can choose what to install).

    Hi Joshefin,

So when you say install windows how exactly? i mean if i do that using recovery discs all the garbage will install aswell wont it?

I got a set of recovery discs i made, I also got a Vista disc 32Bit that has all versions on if that helps. I use Home Premium.

Not sure how i go about installing photoshop elements and all the other great software thou aswell, as it all on recovery discs i believe so not sure how i would hack them to get the programs to install what i just want to install.

    Thank you,
    CG

I did a clean install of Vista using my own Windows Vista DVD (I backed up and did a recovery of windows activation files using a method described here in one thread). Then installed drivers (its little tricky), some from the Sony site and some from recovery dvds. Also you can choose what software (and drivers) to install from recovery dvd.
And of course, if you do something wrong you can always restore laptop to original state using the recovery dvds.

By choose what to install you meant by the driver and application folder on the recovery Disk I assume, I did that also after using an Retail Windows Vista DVD, but I don't think he has one.

Hence my comment that you cannot restore windows and selective programs via only the restore disc.
