I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ27G notebook to be exact and been having a few issues of late, and wondering if there are some clever computer buffs out there to help me solve my dilema.
Firstly I run Vista on 32bit with service pack 1 and just as a side note formated not that long ago.
The main problem is instaling software. Here's when it gets a bit tempremental. Basically it doesn't want to do it, instal software that is. And before you all say "yeah that's an easy one, just run it as Administrator!!" no been there done that and yes it is set as me being administrator etc.

My question, is there a simple oversite or a setting in computer management or even firmware or drivers that need to be definately looked at? I mean it wont even load software at times from the DVD drive let alone from the hard drive!(It wasn't like that before, I know it can do it)
I did a malware scan with Spybot yesterday and still nothing?

This is busting my chops, somebody, anybody have a clue

    Cheers

You need to be more specific as to what is happening. Just saying "it doesn't install software" doesn't really tell us what happens. Do you get an error? Does it not recognize that you have put a disk in the drive?

O.k more specific. Here's an example, the other day I downloaded the iTunes setup software for my iphone and you double click on it and after the windows installer pops up telling me "Preparing to Install" nothing eventuates, no error messages just simply goes no further.
With DVD&CD's its the same deal. Doesn't seem to want to start the instal process?

That's the sort of thing I'm up against, bit of a mystery hey?

I believe sometimes products like this do more harm than good. I have used this program and when you start wiping out registry items with software programs like this they can screw you computer even more.

Sorry not a big fan of such programs.

As well you should be! These "magic bullets" are more often snake oil than reality.

But to your issue, let's stick with the iTunes instance just to focus the conversation. When it starts up and the sits there, do you have to kill it or does it go away on it's own. If you have to kill it how do you do so? Also have you looked at the system and application logs to see if anything shows up there?

    Hi Gary,
It seems to drop off and goes away on its own. No prompting required. As for the system and application logs I'll check and see if anything doesn't look right and get back to you.
I've got a feeling this thing is going to need a format, I'm waiting on a bigger hard drive and keen to give Windows 7 a go.
I just wonder why the DVD reader doesn't work though? That puzzles me also

Once again, you need to be more specific. Define doesn't work. Doesn't work at all, doesn't autostart installers, doesn't play dvd's or cd's, doesn't display files in Windows Explorer? What? There are all sorts of degrees of "doesn't work".
