Does anyone have any idea if it's possible to download Windows 7 RC 1 for a VGN-FZ190 pre-installed with Vista Ultimate? I'm worried about the drivers not being backwards compatible and it was a mistake buying from Sony 2 years ago without realizing they don't have each and every single driver needed for this computer on their website.

I am going to install the 64 bit RC this evening. I will also be dual booting it with my vista 32 bit Home premium. Windows will install some basic drivers by itself. Search this forum or google for getting drivers for unfound devices.

You might be able to extract the 32 bit drivers from sony support for Vista without any problems. Always dual boot for trying out a OS.

Every single driver is on the 2 DVD system recovery set you made when you first got your machine. You DID make the 2 DVD system recovery set, didn't you? If not and you still have the hidden recovery partition, you can still make the set. See my signature line below for the info on a clean Vista installation on and FZ190. It spells out all the drivers and apps necessary. I know of someone who used this same document and files to install Win 7 on an FZ190 with everything functional, all FN keys, power management, the works.

Gary, is there an online guide to clean install Win7 on fz190 of the person you spoke of? I did a clean install on my fz190 but without the functions of FN keys, media pad etc. I tried to install those drivers from the 1st recovery disc but an error message occured as the DVD tried to run.

Not as a single document no, however if you look in my signature line below there is a link to my original guide for a Vista clean install and also Dr. Pratik's notes for using the same guide to install Win7. He shows the things that are different.
