    Hi,

I have a Sony Via VGN-FZ38M and enabled Intel VT-x - was ok. Before that I had overheating issues which went to bluescreen, solution is open it u and hoovered the copper grill from the inside. (Beware of static). Problem was it sucked dust from the carpet and stuck on the grill inside - bad design.

I have a problem I want to solve though. The Sony Specs say MAX ram is 4GB. I already have 2x2GB. These are PC2-5300S (that is what is written on the chip). 5 5 5 12

I want to add 2x4 GB RAM despite the specs. The ones I found are on amazon as PC2-5300 SQ series and 5-5-5-15.

Sony recommended 4GB max when 8GB Kits were not around. Just wondering if anyone tried it has it worked for them. No theories please just actual experience if you don't mind. Would be grateful to be know before I spend a lot of money on these.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for th reply,

I agree that, that was the the maximum theoretical at the time because 4GB modules were not available at the time. I was ideally looking for someone who has tried with a pair of 4GB sticks. However...

After some advice I tried a pair of 4GB sticks and it does take it. Now I have a FZ38M with 8GB RAM. Working on Debian / Win7 / WIN Server 2008. Great :)
If 16 GB kit existed that will be a nice one to try !

The original Laptop Specs also don't say MAX drive capacity but managed to put 750GB drive - working.

Now I have got to find out if a 1TB SSD will work.

    Cheers.
