    Hello everyone,

I am using Sony Vaio VGN-SZ38GP. Recently, I reinstalled Windows XP onto my system. The system was working fine until some days back, the STAMINA/SPEED swtich started malfunctioning. The green light on stamina switch is now always on, it doesn't change even if I change switch position. I have tried installing all the drivers again and again but no use. Tried installing drivers in safe mode but it didn't work.
While installing the nVidia device driver, I kept an eye on the device manager, I refreshed, show "unknown device" and they popped-up a message saying "Driver Update Failed".
My nVidia device is never display in the device manager. Is there anything I can do? Please advice.

Well...before making any darkest statements, I would try to do clean install of Windows again.

Thanks for the reply. I found the clean install of Windows Vista. Can you provide me with the link on clean install for Windows XP. It would be a real turn-off if the GPU is dead.

Yeah, i know its sad. I sent it to Sony and had the parts replaced for SGD1500. They had to ship the parts from japan too. I guess its the downside of owning a laptop made in japan. I guess your better off getting a new laptop now or implement an eGPU if portability is not an issue.

I have the exact same model and have the same problem. I read on another thread/forum that it means the GPU is dead (as lolverse has said above). sorry mate.
