    Hi all,

I have a vaio VGN-SZ650 running vista business for 4 months. Two days ago my windows crashed and I tried everthing but couldn't login (even in the safe mode). Since I dont have the vista business DVD, I borrowed the Home Premium from my friend, and that version is for his Dell XPS laptop. I installed it to the same OS drive and it worked fine.
Then I went to the sony website to update the drivers for the new windows. Some of the drivers went through but some noticed that they are not compatible with the Home Premium version. After updating the driver for the Intel chipset, my windows automatically restarted and then it doesnt boot anymore. I saw the LED of the power, bluetooth, I heard the fan and the CDROM spinning but the screen was just blank. I contacted Sony and they told me to replace/reseat the RAM. I saw a lot of guys on this website recommened the samething, so I tried it but didn't work.

I don't have warranty for this laptop so I'm just hoping the motherboard didn't get damaged. If anyone knows about this kind of problem please help, I really appreciate it. Thanks.

Maybe you could return it to Sony and have them fix it? That might cost money, but this sounds serious. If the laptop stil boots, maybe you could use a recovery CD/DVD or access the recovery partition.
Did you buy the laptop from someone else? If you bought it in a store it should have come with recovery media (or a guide to the recovery partition).

i bought it on ebay and too bad I dont have any backup disk or original vista CD. That's why I had to install another version of visa, so I could save my data from being lost.
I wanna give it a try before sending it to sony for repair. if anyone knows about this please help!!

Hi if you have been able to boot your pc then you should be able to use the backup partition on the H/d to restore the laptop to its original condition, you will need to install the backup and restore program, which you may get from sony web site in the drivers section or obtain it from another SZ laptop, don`t forget to backup you personel data before doing so..
    regards

after the first crash I installed another version of vista (Home Premium from Dell) and then I deleted the original version (business). Like I said the laptop wont boot after I installed the wrong drivers and windows update from the sony website. Those drivers and windows update are for the Vista Business and my laptop was running the Home Premium.

Now I couldn't get in to BIOS or safe mode. when I turn on the laptop, the only things working are the LEDs, fan, and CDROM, and not thing showed up on the screen. All the F keys didn't work.

Does anyone know if the wrong chipset drivers and wrong windows update could cause the laptop to not booting? Also, how do I know if the motherboard was burned or not? Since I still saw the LEDs, fan, and CDRom working, I'm just hoping the board didn't get burned yet.
