    Hello,

I have a valid volume licence XP CD that will let me install on other laptops. I attempt to install on the VGN-Z690 and I get a bluescreen before it gets to the disc detection /f8 to continue part. I put the sata drivers on a floppy, selected them and I still get the BSOD.

Any suggestions? I've had this on some dell workstations and you had to change the controller in the bios but I don't see that in the Sony bios.

Doesn't your Z690 come with a XP downgrade disc? Why not use that disc instead?

It didn't come with a disc for me. I was able to install on the 540 with no issues using the same disc. I'm using the 5400 RPM H D the unit came with to install on.

some laptops to not allow for ide compatibility. so you would have to slipstream a sata driver in order to install xp b/c it does not natively support sata drives.

Loading the drivers from floppy should work (it works with mine) but you have to get the correct drivers.
Which part of the Sata Drivers that you selected? You have to select the right one to make it works.
And do you have Service Pack slipstreamed with your XP disc? You should have at least SP2 slipstreamed with your XP CD.

I have a SP2 XP CD - installed it on plenty of other computer (a few hundred) no problems whatsoever. I creates a slipstreamed version with the \IntelSATAICH9M-EM drivers - tried the ones from Sony's web page for the 690, tried the ones that I used for my 540, tried the ones released in march from Intel's web page - still no luck.

When you have the original Vista installed with your Z, what does it say in the Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller?
