Do any of the replacement batteries out there not require a bios patch to ignore the damn DRM on their batteries?

I really love my Sony laptop. but would never ever by another. I have had 3 batteries die in about 15 months. The first two Sony replaced under warranty, but this third one will be on my dime.

It appears to be a problem with Sony's DRM, as the battery life doesn't seem to go down, but you just start getting No Battery Detected messages. Replacement batteries start out at around $60, but Sony seems to want about $300.

I'm looking at getting a replacement and then shelving this Sony for a Lenovo as I can't afford to start "renting" batteries at these prices.

You get no battery detected messages but this is remedied with a new battery? Are you sure it's not a problem with the connector on the computer itself?

My 5 year old Vaio C that I bought from Costco has the no battery detected issue and thanks to Costco's excellent 2 year warranty, they sent me another battery to see if that would fix the issue but unfortunately it did not. I think the metal connector is broken on my computer because I would make it a habit to take the battery out when plugged in to save battery life. I've now learned it's just cheaper to replace the battery Tha. Worry about a mothorboard issue.

Replacing the battery has fixed the problem twice. The last replacement worked since about thanksgiving.
