Alright so I found an excellent deal on a Sony VPC CW17FX.

The only problem is it has a cracked and broken screen, but everything else works.

I was thinking about buying a new LCD and fixing it myself, does this seem logical/like an easy task to do? Are there any guides online?

I'm buying the Sony for $300 with the broken screen, so if I spend $100 on the screen, that is $400 for a laptop of this caliber which is a pretty good deal, correct?

Yes,its a very good deal for a laptop with good looks and awesome cooling mechanism as this system is fairly silent and cool even in overclocked condition, refer cw owners thread:

Great deal. But when you get it make sure to apply the newly released BIOS update. Mine recently had problems, but Sony fixed them under warranty. One of my speakers quit working and it was spitting out hot air like a hair-dryer. Got it back and all is good with it.
