This is actually 2 questions, just figured I would wrap it up in one thread

    1) many times when just browsing the web, I notice the font sizes suddenly get larger or smaller when my fingers are only touching the trackpad. I can easily change this back, but it is somewhat annoying. Can anyone shed some light on why this happens? I know I am not inadvertantly pressing ctrl +.

    2) This one is probably a bit trickier and more troubling. Every once in a while my keyboard pretty much stops working. I discovered that if I hold down the ctrl key and type then it works, but unless I am holding the ctrl key the keyboard does not work at all. In order to get it to work again I need retart, or log off and on again.

A solution to these problems would be greatly appreciated.

    1) How many fingers are you touching the touchpad with? It may have the pinch magnify gesture, where you draw two fingers closer together or farther apart to zoom in or out. I have done this inadvertantly a couple times.

    2) No idea about this one, sorry!

The second problem might be due to sticky keys.
Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use, and make sure that:

    • "Turn on Sticky Keys" is unchecked. Also go into the Set up Sticky Keys submenu and make sure that
      • "Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times" is unchecked
      • "Lock modifier keys when pressed twice in a row" is unchecked
    • "Turn on Filter Keys" is unchecked. Also go into the Set up Filter Keys submenu and make sure that
      • "Turn on Filter Keys when right SHIFT is pressed for 8 seconds" is unchecked

Finally, make sure you haven't chosen a keyboard layout with double-dead keys (like US International). (If so, hitting any accent creation keys will disable all keys that don't take that accent until the composition is completed, or you use CTRL to force another character.)

Thanks for the replies! The font problem happens when I thought I had one finger on the left mouse button and the other finger moving the cursor, so this is most likely what is happening thanks!

Unfortunately my keyboard problem is still not solved, sticky keys is already off and the keyboard layout I am using is the standard US one. I do notice that my keyboard problem does happen usually when I am selecting a lot of fields with the ctrl key.

    Thanks again

There is no mention of what laptop you own in the title or in any of your posts. It is helpful if you do write the title of your laptop in your first post as others may be having the same problem that own the same laptop as you.

im interested in knowing about the keyboard issue, as I sometimes have a problem with my z where anything i try and type on my keyboard doesn't work. it still responds, but does weird actions like closing the window or selecting something random when i type letters on the keyboard. hasn't happened recently though, maybe rarely every now and then...
