I just purchased this laptop (store demo) at a local store in Australia at a bargain price and comes with full 1 year sony warranty.

The screen is glossy with Full HD 1920x 1080 resolution, vertical angles are not so good, similar to a TN panel, but the horizontal angles look really good, similar to an IPS panel.

So I am not too sure whether the panel is IPS or TN.

Can anyone shed some light on the type of panel used.

There is 4gb of ram installed in one bank, the 2nd bank is empty.

What is the maximum ram that I can install on this computer. I would like to go up to 16gb if that is at all possible.

I just installed a samsung 830 series 250gb SSD along with Win 7 pro. So no more Sony bloatware.

Does anyone know which are the most essential drivers to install from sony website without the bloatware to have the computer running at optimum.

The k/b backlight is very intense especially in full darkness. Is there any way of adjusting the level and also to manually turn on and off the backlight k/b?

After SSD install boot time went from 30 sec to 15 sec. Very impressed so far with the speed especially after coming from a 9 year old IBM R50 laptop.

Just a few specs for the VPCCB35-FG

    i5- 2430 @ 2.4ghz
    1gb Radeon 6630m /intel 3000
    1929 x 1080 FHD Display+ panel
    4gb ram
    Win 7 pro 64 bit
    Samsung 830 series 250gb SSD

Ok I think I am 99% sure now that it is an IPS panel but of average quality though.
It would be interesting to find out who the manufacturer of the panel is though.

I read that 8gb is max ram that can be installed.

Also figured out how to turn backlight for keyboard on an off. Through the vaio control centre.

But would like to find out if the brightness of keyboard light is adjustable.

After installing all win 7 pro updates and all necessary sony vaio drivers, everything works well but the wireless and bluetooth do not work. Went to device manager and there is exclamation mark for bluetooth and wireless network. Tried reinstalling the drivers again but same isue.

Has anyone encountered this issue before and found a workaroud. Need a solution desperately.

ok, let's correct a few things here.

Any sandy bridge i5/i7 will support 8gb dimms, so you can put in 16gb of ram (i have a vaio CA, 14in version)

the display is a TN, nowhere near the quality of the S15/SE

sony requires a specific order of installation to work, so you'll have to research a bit.

BL keyboard only has 1 intensity, but u can turn it off in vaio control center.

    Thanks for that info.

I since did go through a thread which did mention the panel as being TN.

Horizontal angles are reasonable, but vertical are typical for a TN panel.

I followed the install order for the drivers on the vaio download site except the network card driver which i downloaded from another computer and installed on the sony to get internet access. After that i downloaded all drivers via the sony laptop and installed in the order as advised by sony.

Do you think installing the network card driver first caused the problem as this driver was halfway down the list of drivers to install.

But what a stupid system sony have in installing drivers. Without the network card working you cannot get internet access to download all the other dirvers anyway.

After installing the samsung 830 SSD is trim support automatically enabled by the win 7 operating system or do i have to install special software from samsung to enable this feature.
