Please help! I had a virus on my laptop that highly frustrated me, so i decided to simplify my life and buy an upgraded hard drive, since sony wanted $200 to repair it vs the hard drive costing only $70.
So i then installed windows 7 and downloaded most of the drivers from sony esupport for my sony model VGN-FW140e. Now it states that "No Battery is Detected" and shuts down as soon as i disconnect the AC adapter. Any known solutions?

Welcome to NBR - "downloaded most of the drivers" Please clarify which ones you did not load - assuming for now that is your issue with not installing some of the Sony applications.

you need to install Sony ISB Utility. Try installing this sequence (goes for all Vaio models):

Thank you for the responses, unfortunately i am having no luck even after downloading those drivers in sequence. I also repaired my old hard drive using the recovery cd's (restoring all original drivers), and it still doesn't detect the battery. I find it hard to believe that the battery is dead, since it was working fine prior to replacing the hard drive.

try installing AIDA64 and then under computer/power management check battery "wear level", how much (%) your battery is degraded.
Also you can try this thread as well:

Maybe you'll be able to resolve this glitch or whatever causing it.
