Hi,I'm considering buying eather a Sony Vaio AR 41 E (17'' ;Intel Core 2 Duo-7100,1GB RAM; Nvidia 8400;120 Hard Drive)
    ..or,for $250 less I can buy a Dell Vostro 17'' with much better hardware-intel Santa Rosa-7300,4mb cache ; 2 GB RAM ;Nvidia 8600; 160 GB Hard drive,better battery...
As far as I am a graphic designer my priorities are the display quality and the ability to stay cool and in shape after long hours(days) of video rendering..
The Sony Vaio's have a reputation of solid performers but so do the Dell's.
Do you think that the display and the build quality of the Vaio AR 41E and much better than the Dell's?

Since display quality is of great importance to you, I suggest you choose the VAIO AR. I think their LCD panels are made by LG or Toshiba and they generally make good screens. If you buy a Vostro, you have to keep in mind that it will have an LCD panel that's picked randomly from at least four different manufacturers, most of which don't compare to AR's panel, and you will most likely have to do a lot of exchanging to try to get a good one. Unfortunately, Dell won't give you the LCD panel model/manufacturer information while your order is being processed and you're not able to choose the panel.

The AR is a beast of a notebook. Huge mofo.
Besides that, Sony is currently the king of crapware and bloatware.
Whereas Dell advertises Vostros as coming without that crap.

I say go with the Vostro. But bone up on the warranty to 3yrs to include Accidental Damage. I would recommend that with any notebook.
