Okay, it took a while to load, but i got an already configured one so i am going to assume it's the one you want for $1079.

The CPU will be enough for anything except the most demanding of tasks (video encoding, etc).

The RAM... 4GB is good enough for anything other than running multiple VMs etc.

the GPU (6630m) will play most modern game (currently out) at medium with respectable FPS

HDD, upgrade yourself, screen is nice, be prepared as text might be a little smaller than you expect (especially if you're used to the 720p crap they have) Has a backlit keyboard which is nice. Uses both Discrete and integrated GPU to save battery, has an optimus-like behavior

    As for weight, it's ~5 lbs... well 2.3 kg which is 2.2*2.3 ~= 5.06 lbs :p

Battery life... i'm not sure, my friend has one, but lemme ask him quick (i'll edit)

edit: my friend took it out once and got ~4 hours... but he usually has it plugged in, so go on the owners thread.

Thankyou this model comes with the large capacity battery though, will that change it's weight/battery and by how much?

Not sure how much will the weight change, but if the original battery is 6-cell and the extended(large capacity) battery is 9-cell, i guess expect a 50% increase in batt life. Sony's extended batteries usually are a little bulkier and raise up the bottom of the laptop (except the new sheet batteries). google them to see how they look (sheet battery versus say, a vaio z extended battery)

well unfortunetly the coupon expired :(...

Any chance I could call Sony and get an extension on it?

Also I went to all the laptops and it said 7.07 pounds for weight, that can't be right.. could it?

call anyways, if not see if they have student discount. I'd push for it anyways. And... 7.07 lbs sounds a little farfetched, you sure you're not looking at the CB (15.5" as opposed to CA 14.1"?)

No there's a chart and under the 14.1' it says 7.07 pounds but the custom configuration includes the large capacity battery but that still seems like an awful lot..

Ill try calling tomorrow to see if I can still get a discount and let you others know about the weight.
