Hi
Any news about new sony vaio models to be shown at CES2014?
Do you guys think that Sony will announce something?
Im saying this because the vídeo that sony made a while ago with laptop components about ces :/
-
-
Of course, they will have something new. Just wait for the day CES open.
-
I hope to see a powerfull laptop with full processor, not more ultrabooks :/
Lets wait and see -
I don't think Sony comes that way. They are now focusing to ultra portable lines with long battery life.
Sony as known not for gamers for long time now.

I'm hoping Sony release a whole new Pro 13 since they never came out with the typical 4-month refresh for this model.
-
I know, but some type of vaio Z or vaio s with quad core and so-so gpu...i have a fully spec vaio fw for about 5 years and it is running like new with ssd... its a very capable machine.. i want to buy a laptop much much better than mine, not more or less.. hoping to see, at least, a more powerfull vaio duo 13 or pro, so i can decide
-
I would love to see a Z successor.
-
Just 2 more days, Jan. 7th-10th. Funny thing, I'll be in Vegas. I wish I had access. Is it open to the public?
-
No, you have to pay.
It was FREE before Sep 1st, then $100 until 1/1/2014.
Now, if you want to get inside, it is $200.
You also need a business card even though it is not hard to find one. -
Personally hope for an 8 inch tablet from sony, preferably with at least full HD screen, running windows 8.1 pro, something along the lines of the new lenovo thinkpad 8, which features nice resolution, good cpu, usb 3.0, micro hdmi and what seems solid build quality.
If anything, perhaps any upgrades to laptops could be just processors, so with iris graphics? -
"Finally, the refreshed VAIO Pro and VAIO Duo models, which we previously reviewed, will be available in early April."

Are we expecting a CPU and GPU upgrade with the refreshed version of the Duo 13?
-
^
Seems like the same CPU and GPU. -

does Sony have any non-touch matte FHD (or higher res) ultrabook models in 13.3" or 14"? if so, what are they? thanks.

Found one:
CES 2014: Sony's VAIO series gets an 11-inch Fit 11A Flip PC - Tech2
"In addition to the Fit 11A, models like the VAIO Tap 11, Tap 21, Duo 13, Fit 14E and Fit 15E are being updated with Windows 8.1 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 12. The VAIO Pro 11, Pro 13, Tap 11 and Tap 21 models will now also include 802.11ac, next-generation wireless connectivity technology."
I would assume things like the Tap which has the Pentium would get Bay Trail if there's a processor bump. So nothing revolutionary, just evolutionary. -
-
Don't see the point in that. You can just not use the touch if you don't want.
-
Anyone who's heard anything about the Mutli-flip refresh except that they will add an 11-inch model? Except for the fan noise I have only heard good things about that model.
-
-
I feel like I have pretty much given up on Sony for a laptop.
After owning the Z1 Sony became my favorite manufacturer, however since... they have basically phased out any laptop that isnt an ultrabook / general use computer.
There is not a single model left that is for the power user.
It's really a sad day. I mean all they have to do is make the Vaio Pro 13 a little fatter and pack it with more guts. Thats it!gurnisht likes this. -
What will the refresh for the Multi-Flip mean?

They don't have to make it thicker to get a power machine, all they really need to do...
...is wait a few months and then fill the same chassis with Broadwell stuff... (my pessimistic prognose from autumn 2013) -
Well, unfortunately Broadwell mobile quad cores will still produce same heat as current Haswells, as far as I know they will maintain same TDP. So yes, expect longer battery life and a small increase in power, but not M-cpus on chassis designed for Haswell ULV.
-
I have been wating for a long time for something like a 15" macbook pro coming from Sony, but looks like it simply won't happen. PC market is shrinking and most sales come from ultrabooks, so unfortunately makes sense they keep their efforts going on that direction.
I would now be happy with a 15" Pro, but neither that is available,.... **** you Sony! -
-
I noticed on Sony's website, that they're probably going to release Pro 15. They didn't updated sizes in overview of all VAIOs models, but they've updated sites of specific models.
VAIO® Pro | Lightest Ultrabook
Sizes: 11.6-inch, 13.3-inch and 15.5-inch
I wonder what they want to change in bigger models.Zibbi02 likes this. -
Wow, nice find Aelavin! Really wish it becomes real, will be a great competitor to the upcoming Samsung Ativ. I will eat my words now
The S15 was/is indeed a great machine and MBP competitor, sad it was discontinued in favor of the cheaper FIT/FIT-E series which are not. At that time I was waiting for a Haswell upgrade. There is still place in Sony series for it: drop the DVD and make it a bit slimmer and lighter, FHD/WQHD/touch/matte options and they have a MBP killer. If it does not exist is I think because of the current market, an ultrabook will always be slimmer. lighter, probably cheaper and have more than enough power for almost everyone. -
-
Regarding the processor I'm right with you. The S had a real high-end CPU, and now all you can get, whether it is fit,fitE,fitA(multi-flip), are these ULV processors. Perhaps it is enough for a standard user(web browsing, watching films, writing documents), who praises battery life higher than preformance, but a resurrection of the Z-series would probably not make anyone sad. -
Even the Vaio Z1 had this issue. Sure it worked great when you purchased it but 8 months later the gunk and residue inside the fan blades raises temps. Unless you literally take it apart and physically clean every blade of the fan you'l never get it back to how it was on day one. Due to this the laptop runs much hotter then it does on day 1 no matter how many times you blow compressed air into it.
This is why id prefer a thicker chassi
Also the pro lacks many many features that id like in a real laptop.... network port? vga / display port? 3 usb ports? a dvd drive?
I know the dvd drive is not that important but the space it leaves for a second hard drive is.
There was nothing like having a tiny ultra-powerful laptop with a 256Gig SSD + 1 TB hard drive.
That is what made the Z1 so awesome. It had EVERYTHING! -
That page has gone and now there's no mention of a 15" Pro. Shame.
-
Just looking for a bump in screen resolution before I replace my old vaio Z. All 13" ultrabook are now appearing with 2500x1440+ resolutions. Shame if Sony sticks with the current 1080p...

I am a huge fan of VAIO, my first Sony Laptop was the 2008 VGN-Z. At that time it was the only laptop under 1,5kg having all I needed, including the optical drive.
As a frequent traveler, I also tried the P and X series, which I both found so beautiful (especially the golden X series), that I was able to tolerate the lower processing power (didn't do much else than browsing, mailing, maintaining a website at that time. What I couldn't stand was the low battery life with the standard battery (3hrs with P, 5hrs with X), which was the only option for me, not wanting to sacrifice the design. I even used to carry and swap two small batteries in my X...
Only once I cheated on VAIO, got myself Nokia Booklet 3G = nice designed 1.2kg machine with over 10hours on Atom.
Since 2012, I use Sandy Bridge Vaio Z with sheet battery, all covered in the leather case, which is for me still unbeatable combination of lightweight, battery life (10 hrs of good use) and design (nothing sticks out, leather cover).
So hell yeah, I should be happy to have all what I need...
but as you probably suspect, I'm a kind of dreamer and although sticking to my current equipment for as long as possible was my original plan,
I start dreaming.
Before I share my dream with you, let me just put some of my opinions on current VAIO lineup straight:
Vaio FIT / FLIP - too heavy
Vaio DUO 11 - sh**ty battery life, Fat!, liked the concept
Vaio DUO 13 - way better, like the ratio of battery life/weight, like the flat design, didn't buy, still too much in love with my Vaio Z, which is somehow too similar (13", long battery, FullHD, 512GB) to risk the change
Vaio Pro 11, 13 - from the first moment I saw the promotion video, I knew I wanted to skip it. I am an enemy of non-flat design = where front is thinner than back, nothing special graphics, ugly sheet battery design, no progress in display resolution (wouldn't choose more than fullHD, just miss the premium factor)........
I dream of a beautiful black device.
It is compact. Not small, not thin. It is compact.
It doesn't act thin, because it is flat.
How thin it is? You wouldn't ask, because it is beautiful.
The base is simple, edgy, precise, like the Xperia Tablet Z, it could have its power button on it.
Wait, how many inches? You wouldn't ask. Cause the bezel is so thin, which makes me see a f**king lot.
The design is clean. I feel so distingushed while taking this out of the side pocket of my small travelling bag.
It is like two sharp omni-balanced pieces of feather-weight diamond, connected with a tight hinge.
The hinge tight enough to hold the non-touch display's stability, but moving like a melted butter, allowing me to open it with one hand, the other using to hold my cigar (ok, I don't smoke, but you see my point)
What's inside? As I'm not really an expert, I won't tell you which of the broadwell cpu + gpu would fit in and how it would perform. Maybe you can help me a bit here.
Let's say it would be a 12,1" FullHD screen on a "10,6 inch body", the thickness kinda doesn't matter, weight up to 1Kg )2lbs), as long as it stays clean, compact, beautiful.
There would be 960GB SSD (2TB would be even nicer) option, that's my current condition of shifting to a new device (this world is kinda stuck with 500GB for last 5 years, while all the data gets bigger and bigger). And I would demand 10hrs of battery. Does someone have an idea what cpu/gpu could still get inside? Anything between my current Sandy Bridge Z-series and ATOM 2,0GHz X-series is fine for me. Which architecture does fit in my dream? Bay Tral? Broadwell Y (better than Atom 2,0GHz?) Broadwell M? -
Sh*t........
-
I'm confused. If Sony sold the Vaio Brand, why is there a refresh?
-
-
-
why is there so much confusion here about the final refresh? the refresh was announced at CES and is already happening now in the UK and France with the Pro line and will continue into the U.S. by April. it's as simple as that.
that being said, there isn't much to the refresh.. an upgrade to an AC card, an i7-4650U with HD 5000 option, and some software items. no style, design, or form factor changes whatsoever.
