What's the difference between T7250 and T8100? Will I notice the difference? Is the extra $100 worth it? Are these laptops even worth $1000+? Are these laptops even fast (long term affect)? Is it a good buy or could I find better deals elsewhere? I'll be using the laptop for school work (word processing, powerpoints, spreadsheets, viewing .pdf files, etc.), surfing the net, chatting on msn and watching online movies. I might install GTA, Halo, The Sims 2 and Guild Wars, but will barely play these games. I know I'll definitely multitask with the laptop. Will it last for 4 years? What problems would I encounter with cr laptops?

Asus has short battery life and Dell is also overpriced and I'd like to purchase a laptop in a retail store

Neither are great for games. Expect to be playing halo and similar games at 800x600 resolution. The vgn looks better to me.

The difference between the processors is the T8100 runs cooler, consumes less power and is slightly faster with more cache.

The T8100 is a penryn with 45nm process design, the 7250 is a Merom with 65 NM process design , they are not much different in performnce but the T8100 runs cooler due to its die-shunk deign, and on paper the battery life will be increased by 10 percent or so but in reality you do not notice that.

But their prices are quite similar so you should choose the T8100 for a bit better speed and bit better battery life on paper at least.

I think any thing more than T7xxx is capable enough for current Windows apps , the T9xxx is just a big waste of money considering its performance advantage over the T8xxx is so small.

But I 'd say you should wait it for a couple of weeks more , you will see Montevina lappies from Acer,ASUS, Sony, HP, Dell , Lenovo and Toshiba soon.

I'll personally order a Dell when they start selling Montevinas.

NOTE: current Penryn has only 800Mhz fast FSB speed so it is much slower than the Montevina penryns with 1066mhz FSB, plus montevina Penryns support DDR3 ram.

    Dell is also oeverpriced?

    Where are you living?

Dell is the cheapest when you get high-specced lappies.

Dell produces the best bang for your buck.

ASUS has bad battery life , is true but it is also exaggerated by many.

I live in Canada. I configured a Vostro 1400 earlier today and T8100 cost $250.

ASUS is also overpriced for its crappy quality , look at its case , I am not tlaking about high end ASUS laptops but A 8or F3,8,9 series , they are really bad , cheaply made........at least Dell laptops are better built and I do not personally think Dell and ASUS are in the same league.

Dell makes pro series such as the Precision M6300.

    250 over the T7250?
wow , it is lots of money for a bit more speed.

any way, it 's not worth it in my opinion but you can also try an inspiron or a vostro1310 or 1510.

I like the new 1510 , built well and very powerful comes with Dell complete care, now free shipping in the US last time I checked, I may go back there soon and get it for myself.

Anyway, the Vostro is really great and it is the most under rated model Dell ever produced IMHO.

but if you can , you should wait to see montevinas , they will be faster and better with more features , if they are too expesnive when they are out , you'll always be able to pick up a bargain Santarosa left out there.

I will wait for a couple more months and see how Montevina priced and decide what to buy and sell but I always buy a Dell or an Acer for its better bang for my baht or USD.

Also, as I said in HP room, never buy a pavilion , they are not configurable with high resolution LCD panel or high-end GPU. If it were my own money, I 'd never buy a HP(consumer) with its lousy warranty policy(HP warranty was local only and HP in ASIA refused to fix speaker problems because my boss bought it in San Diego).

Even HP business comes with lcoal warranty and no way to get excelelnt service like Dell's complete care plan.

PS. you can buy a Dell from a bestbuy too.
