im having trouble installing the sony shared library driver. a message pops up saying that it only works with windows vista and windows 7. the first time i tried installing the shared library, a message said this program may not have installed properly...with options to retry installation with correct settings or this program installed correctly. is there a way to check and see if shared library was installed?

during reinstallation, i deleted the biggest partition and installed windows 7 on it INSTEAD of deleting it and creating a new partition. does this have any effect on why shared library isnt installing?

If your laptop is still under warranty, I suggest to leave the recovery partition (to avoid getting your warranty void).

Yea. I got that message too when I tried to install the Sony Shared Library.

Just ignore that freaking message and continue ;)

my assist button doesnt work as well. what driver do i need to install to bring back my vaio care program? i tried vaio care troubleshooter driver, but it didnt install..

Yeah. Just disregard the message because you still get it installed. You can confirm it from Device Manager.

Don't recall which driver for the VAIO care program since I don't use that (extra load).

Time to enjoy your FAST machine :)

You won't find the "Sony Shared Library" because its not what you think. :(
ie, Fn key wont work if you don't install the said driver

If your Device Manager shows no error then you are fine, IMO.

I still recommend the late 190's... like the 197.x or 198.x. I personally think there's been too many issues with powermizer and the like. The late 190's were more stable and reliable.

gives me an error every time I try to install it. I remember there was a specific sony file that we used to put in that folder to allow installation, right?

Here is a list of all past and current Nvidia Mobile driver stacks. Just make sure to get the modified "nvdisp.inf" to replace the one in the folder. I believe that's the file you're talking about. :)

Sure! The below post has been updated to reflect the 259.12 drivers, but if you pick a different version driver you want, just follow these directions for an update. :)

I've redone the whole thing and everything works fine now except for the assit (but thats because im missing vaio care).

My only problem is that when I try to use the modded .inf files to get the newer 259.xx drivers everything installs and works fine but only my fn brightness buttons dont function properly. When I reverted back to the drivers on the sony website they began to work again. Is this supposed to happen with the modded video drivers?

The Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver is installed as a Windows update, and you shouldn't usually need to install it, unless you just installed Windows and haven't done an update yet. Windows Update will catch that one first, then you can install the rest of 'em.

Before you did your clean install, did you make the backup DVD's or do you still have your recovery partition?

Those two icons with a red rectangle around them.
The left icon is the Scroll icon, and the right is the num lock icon.
They appeared when i installed the VAIO Event Service.

I actually still have the original hard drive in an external case. I found the windvd for an older F series and it works so far after doing the updates but its version 8 and I believe we had version 10 bc it looks different then what I had before.

This is what I am using at the moment: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFW270J&SelectOS=45#div_pos_113
If you go down to windvd you can download it and then install the 2 updates it works with avatar so far but haven't been able to test anything else. the GUI just doesnt look as good as the version that came with the CW2 model. lol

Ok, i managed to remove those nasty icons.
I just edited windows registry here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sony Corporation\VAIO Event Service\Modules\{C365DCD7-84CC-4360-A0C4-B1215AC6323D}
and changed the 'Enable' key to '0'.

I have yet another problem. My keyboard brightness control doesnt work, but if i get to 'Windows energy settings' i can lower the brightness... My sound keyboard control works perfectly.

BTW, my notebook model is VPCCW27FX/B.

Interesting HeXo! I've never seen those icons, but I'm glad you figured them out. The display brightness FN key control is related to the Nvidia GPU drivers. Are you using Sony drivers or LaptopVideo2Go?

How can i install the LaptopVideo2Go drivers? When i try installing them, i receive a message like 'No supported devices found'

LOL. This is funny. What about those? I changed to 260.52. Both download for me, although they may be about to stop hotlinking the installer and INF files. I'll just host them for all subsequent updates.

Today is definitely not my day... when i tried to install the 260.52 i received this error message:
If i download the v260.63 and use the v260.52 .INF, it will work? Because the v260.63 driver doesn't have a modified .INF

I've never done cross version installs... but technically it should. At some point they moved to nvwi.inf instead of nv-disp.inf. The latest driver uses the new nvwi.inf. Wow. I'm sorry. This is just not working is it?! Let me shuffle some stuff around... you can try that, but IDK what would happen if your display goes black?

This is really weird... it worked perfectly in my past windows install...

ok so not sure how to fix this, I looked in all the settings but before my reinstall I installed the newest synaptics drivers and got me the multi touch controls on the touchpad. Main one I loved was the 2 finger swip for forwards and backwards. Well I got the synaptics drivers installed and have the 2 finger swip but its hard as hell for it to work. It used to be barely brushing the trackpad with 2 finger left or right would make it work now it takes like 5 tires. Any ideas. I went through all the settings that I saw.
    Thanks

Synaptics has a settings panel for touchpad sensitivity. Try turning up the sensitivity.
