I am really not sure whether i can post this here. However, since it deals with sony i post it here. Please excuse, If am wrong.

Am planning to get a sony laptop for me. The design simply rocks :) :) I am getting mixed reviews about cw and E series. But i made up my mind to get one.

My budget is aroung 40000rupees. Thats around 800$. So suggest me a better one between these two for occasional moderate and less(mosltly) demanding games. I dont care whether its 14 or 15 inch.

Am looking at lower end versions of both the models.
Only difference is CW uses Nvidia Geforce 310 and the E series uses some Radeon 5000 series one. CW has 14 inch screen whereas E series has a 15.5 inch screen. In the models which i am looking at both have matte finish and both has WXGA:1366 x 768 VAIO Display. So please tell me which one should i go for. I cant go beyond this budget for sure. And please let me know whether the screen quality will be on par to Inspiron one atleast? ( I dont need HD).

    Thanks in advance.

Please check physical availability of CW series. It has been posted on this and other forums that Sony India has dis-continued the CW series (so far only India).

It might make your decision making easier :D

I'd get the e series, with the 5470 or 5650.

The CW is being discontinued in the UK so I would presume it is elsewhere too. The E series is expected to be it's replacement. I can't comment on whether the screen quality is comparably to a Dell Inspiron but I can say that when I saw the E series 15.5" in store, I wasn't impressed with the screen compared to other similarly priced laptop in store.

The CW series is just too hard to recommend to anyone I know anyway, with all the problems I've heard of with them. With all the battery issues alone, I can't in good conscience recommend them. And I think it's too early into the E-series product life cycle to judge the quality that we're going to see with that model.

That's a good piece of info there. Actually, the guy in Sony World told, since this CW was an old model now , I will get some discount around 3000 rupees.i.e Around $70 dollars :)So i considered that. Pool me :) What i plan to do now is wait for a couple of months and check E series' pros and cons a little closer. And I hope, the other companies will also introduce a plethora of mid range notebooks with i3 and i5 processors in the next couple of months.

I was having this dilemma last week till I just went for the E series :)

IMO the CW didnt look nice particularly the area aroudn teh touchpad (I wanted black).

The E series looks better. Also I read about the CW's battery drain problem which out me off it.

Its too early to confirm any similar problems in the E series...

To be honest, following the forums here in Sweden adn in Holland for example, the E-series has far more problems then the CW2 series for example.
One of the major flaws on the E is a very annoying high pitch sound, that almost all of them have. Id recomend a CW2 anyday over an E. Not to mention that the screen is far better on the CW2 then the E. Anyway, is a personal choice as always.

The CW2 is it's replacement, not the E series. And indeed, the screen on the E worse then for example the CW and CW2 series.

Do the low end versions have that high pitch noise? I read it occurs only with the blue ray drives? Throw some light dude. Things getting complicated :(

As far as here in Sweden, it concerns both those with blue ray and those without. Same situation as I can see in Holland, both those with and without blue rays has the noise.

I can confirm that the high pitched sound is on all the E series models - I have had two different ones , the high res with the blue ray and thought the standard core i3 might not suffer from this so swaped (plus the resolution on the high res was driving me made on only a 15.5in screen - zooming in and out permanently).

I have read the high pitched sound was also on the F series of notebooks and it may be caused by a microphone malfunction. Lets hope Sony address this. I for one will be ringing head office on Monday morning.

The item is simply not fit for purpose and I think anyone who experiences this should complain bitterly to as high up in sony as they can get to on the phone. We should'nt have to put up with these short comings on expensive laptops.

Sony India's Sony Vaio E Series offerings seem strange:

The first is hampered by a slow processor and the 2nd one, which is the pricier option btw, doesn't have full HD screen and graphics card.
