Sony Vaio Color Choices

Does anyone know what is the best color to choose for a sony laptop? The default is gunmetal black. It cost $50 to change the color and they have

Purple violet
Iridescent Blue
Caribbean Green
Coconut White
Lava Black
Hibiscus Pink

Now looking at those color upgrades, i will not get purple, green, blue nor pink. Those colors look so fruity.

Would you guys suggest the coconut white, lava black or just save $50 with the gunmetal black? For some reason, i think the gunmetal black is not really good looking since paying $50 gets you lava black and i feel the look of that might be superior.

Can someone tell me what color they have and how it looks. I am just deciding between those 3, coconut white, lava black and gunmetal black.

 

Going by the pictures the colours are obviously the same as the uk choices with different names, so I have a coconut white which I liked the most out of the other choices.

However Gunmetal black wasnt a UK option, but while browsing in a sony store locally a couple weeks back I saw a gunmetal black one and have to say it was by far the best looking of them all, would definitly choose it.

The fact its no extra cost is a winner too, is strange tbh that they dont use a different default colour and charge for gunmetal as I would imagine its very popular.

 

Canadian site have Premium Carbon Fiber. I think it a good choice.

 

Hey jonnycasino. Could you tell the difference between gunmetal black and lava black? Initially, i wanted the coconut white because it looks white like a macbook and looks very clean.

wow thanks for those pictures!! By looking at it, it seems the coconut white doesn't seem that good looking anymore. Do you agree jonny? The gunmetal surely looks better. Surprised the one didn't look the color of a white macbook.

 

Oh no i made a mistake. They don't have gunmetal black for this laptop. They have matte black. Do you have pictures of how matte black looks?

 

Is the "Iridescent Blue" really iridescent, or does it just change brightness depending on the angle (like any shiny laptops do)?
If it's really iridescent, it would be cool.

I'm not sure, in the sony store they had 3 black models one was Glossy / Lava Black which is what my gf went with and looks pretty good, there was gunmetal black which was the same as the pic above and there was a third black which had the same lid as the gunmetal black but the palm rest was a cheap shiny looking plastic.

The salesman said that was matte black but it didnt look like it to me it just looked kinda cheap compared to the gunmetal and lava ones.

The pics of the white one above are my own pics I actually really like it the pictures dont quite show how it looks properly but as I said before even tho I do like it if Gunmetal Black had been a choice when I configured I would have chosen it.

 

I had the Iridescent Blue 14" Vaio E series and I can confirm that it is bright blue, although the palm rest looked more turquoise, I found it a bit too "in your face", so I sent it back. Also the hinges on the 14" aren't as good as the hinges on the 15".

 

Okay i will go to the sony store here tomorrow to check it out. By the way, i think the matte black is what you described with the cheap shiny looking plastic which is why it doesn't cost anything to upgrade. So my choice is now upgrade it to lava black or coconut white. Did you know how the coconut white looked in person before you got it?

Hey jonnycasino, someone else mentions in the sony owner thread that they have the lava black and it leaves fingerprints like no tomorrow! They also said it was shiny as well. Isn't this the same as the one your Gf has then??

By the way, your laptop looks really light. Or maybe its the picture? Right now i am pretty positive the matte black is gunmetal black because i click on the colors on more info on the laptop and it shows it as gunmetal black. Do you know if by any chance the gunmetal black attracted fingerprints? Also, does your coconut laptop attract fingerprints or dust? Is there anything that you dislike at all about your coconut laptop?

Also, are you bothered by the battery life of this laptop? I hear most people say they only get 2 hours even though it proclaims 3.5 hours? Did you buy the extended battery and if you do where do you buy it at? I see they have it on sonys website but it cost $200 for the battery! I know many dell laptops sell battery on ebay for $70 only but do they sell battery for this laptop on ebay?

 

Fingerprints and dust are noticeable on the lava black yeah, still looks nice tho, my glossy (coconut) white shows no fingerprints or dust which is the main thing I like about it.

It is possible they removed the cheap looking matte black I saw in store and now matte is what gunmetal was before, if matte is the same as the gunmetal one then it doesnt look like it would show fingerprints, dust however would be very visible I guess.

The battery wasn't something I cared about mine is plugged into mains 90% of the time, but ye its pretty crap, I can't see how I would get anywhere near 3.5 hours unless I simply turned it on and left it alone for that time

 

hey are all sony laptop batterys this poor though? By the way, do you use just the touchpad or do you use a mouse? I feel like if i get the coconut white one, i would have to get a white mouse because it wouldn't look right with a black mouse

 

I use a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000, its white top and black bottom just like the laptop, connects directly via bluetooth so no messing about with USB sticks, its nice and small and also pretty bloody cheap, but very good quality

Also I think unless you buy a Vaio which specifically advertises long battery life then the rest are pretty much the same, with power setting on balanced you should see 2, 2.5 hours surfing, anything heavier will obv then bring that down.

 

Hey one last question. Why did you say your GLOSSY coconut white? Also, all these laptops screens are glossy right as you can see your reflection?

 

In the UK its called Glossy White and Glossy Black not Coconut/Lava, but no you cant see your reflection.

 

Thanks jonny. By the way i know you use it at desktop most of the time but when you carry it just for walking around at home, does it feel bulky or heavy at all? I see its 5.95 lbs. My old laptop is 15.4 dell laptop that is 6.6 lbs and is bulky heavy.

 

Hmm don't notice it as being heavy at all, I throw it in one of these sleeves, then throw that in a normal rucksack.

Have hauled it around a lot since I got it in april, its been tossed into many airplane baggage holds, and so far not so much as a single scratch.

 

okay everyone. I went to sony store and saw the laptops. I saw how the 14' looks with lava black and coconut white. The lava black SHOWED FINGERPRINTS LIKE NO TOMORROW on the area where you put your palm. The coconut white barely showed any. However, the coconut white looked a bit different from those photos shown from the 2 posters who took pictures of their laptop. I saw the 15.5 matte black and even though the cover of it looks good and shows no fingerprints, the area where you put your palm still showed fingerprints as well.

I saw the gunmetal black and it looks good however, it was a 16.4 laptop that had it. They didn't have gunmetal black for a 14 or 15' laptop at the store. I did not see any fingerprints from it whatsoever from gunmeta.

I think i am going to go with the coconut one now. I mean the matte black cover looks good but is anyone here really that bothered by the fingerprints on the palm area? I didn't know what people meant that much until today when i saw the fingerprinting. Everytime i look at the palm area, it makes it look bad. I wanted a black one initially because it looks professional. Would you guys say white is 2nd most professional and black is 1st?
