I've decided to upgrade my laptop after years of faithful service and have decided to go with the 15.5 inch sony vaio e series.

    Spec wise i'm going with:
    i5-430
    320GB
    4GB RAM
    ATI MobiltyRadeon HD5650 1GB
    DVD drive.

The one thing I'm not sure about is the display. I was thinking of going with the 1920x1080 hd screen. Will this be overkill for the screen size.

The option below this is a 1366x768 res which seems an odd choice.

I will mainly be using the laptop for general computing, converting files, and watching a lot downloaded anime and tv shows, (via the laptop, hd tv and crt tv). I may also use it for a little CAD work.

Let me know what you think on the display choices, all help is appreciated as not sure.

Just thought of another question, if I go with the 1920x1080 hd screen can i go through desk top properties, screen settings and change the res down a step as i can do on my current laptop?

Will this signicantly lower the image quality? And will a 1920x1080 screen look ok with downloaded shows?

Just asking because this might provide a happy medium between 1920x1080 and the lower screen on offer at 1366x768

Thanks for your help, (and please read above post)

You can switch it down to a lower resolution but there's inevitably a loss in image quality using it at below its native resolution.

The HD screen isn't overkill for the screen size, and even if things look a bit small you can just increase Windows' DPI setting to make it a bit more comfortable. The HD screen on the E-series is also a better quality screen than the lo-res one beyond just resolution, a lot of people have said they've found the regular screen isn't very bright.
