Hello! I am new to this forum and I'm currently experiencing a little problem with my VAIO.
The CD/DVD drive is not reading discs properly.
I want to install GTA 4 on the laptop and when I insert the disc 1 in the drive it sometime reads, sometimes doesn't and sometime doesn't even attempt to read.
But when it does read, the drive doesn't read it for long. 5-7 Mins Tops.
It doesn't only happen with GTA 4 Disc one, but other discs too.
The drive is an Opitarc one. Model number will be updated soon.
I Up-ed from Win 7 Home premium to Win 10 Pro and the problem exists in both the OS's. Regedit method didn't work as well.
Specs -
Windows 10 Pro(Recently Up-ed from Win 7)
Intel Core I3 M380@ 2.53GHz
Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5470 512MB DDR3

Optical drives are susceptible to dust and ageing. Dust settles on the lens; the LED sensor gets weak. How many years has it been? Time for a new drive?
I live in a rather dusty environment and my CD/DVD drives never lasted more than 6 months. Then I got an external USB CD/DVD drive which I keep sealed in a ziplock bag. I take it out when I need to, and put it back in the bag as soon as I'm done. 6 years and counting.MatteBlacke likes this. -
You might be true. Thanks anytimer.

Update - When i keep pressing a put force in the Drive, the CD ROMs reads well. But evetually at 80-90% it fails to read. On every CD

Have you tried cleaning the cd/dvd drive sensor with Isopropyl alcohol?
You could use a q-tip,
or alcohol prep,
or microfiber cloth,
or a commercial drive cleaning kit.MatteBlacke likes this. -
