    Hey,

I ordered a Sony Vaio EB33FM-BJ a couple weeks ago. It has a VGP-BPS22 39Wh battery, but it drains alot. According to the sony website, the laptop should have atleast 2.5 hours of DVD Playback, but even after complete charge, the battery drains out in around 1.5 hours. I have tried to turn down some of the services, and keep the brightness to about 80%, but still the battery is going down way faster than it should. What should I do? Should I contact the Sony people or is there a way to save the batter from going down this fast?

    thanks.

Well, 2.5h DVD playback is more likely marketing specification and bear in mind that 39Wh battery isn't as capacious as you can think so.
To get better time you can try turn down brightness to about 20-30% (the lower the better) and switch scheme on power-saving. I could help a little.
You could also remove unimportant programs which are running in background.

First of all I think you are confused about what "battery drain" means. This term is used for when your battery discharges although not in use (for example out of the laptop or while the laptop is off)! Your case is clearly different.

80% Brightness is quite a lot!! You can expect to get close to official specs only with very low brightness - 20-30% as Aelavin already mentioned. You should also apply power saving profiles, turn off WLAN if not in use, etc. If you watch a movie out if the DVD drive - it consumes additional electricity.
What manufacturers advertise is to be understood "under optimal conditions" and yours seem to be far from optimal - at least the 80% brightness is...

But if you are still certain there is something wrong with your battery, which I doubt based on your description, don't wait too long to complain to Sony as batteries usually have 6 Months Warranty only.
