Received my sony vaio 15.5 laptop today. It looks great. However, does anyone know why the left and right click buttons below the touch pad does not work? The touchpad where i move my cursor is good and i can click using it. However, the left and right click does not work. Can someone tell me why?

    Thank you!

Hey everyone. I received my sony laptop VPCEB390X. I am frustrated with this laptop because after i opened it up and loaded it, the left and right click buttons of the touchpad did not work. The touchpad where you move the arrow worked fine. I then spoke to tech support online and on the phone and we did the screen sharing etc. After he did some changes, my touchpad is now erratic like no tomorrow. I cannot move the touchpad correctly whatsoever. Also, it seems that the left/right buttons of touchpad works now but it keeps on messing up. Does anyone have this problem? I click on it but it keeps looking like i am right clicking everything.

Support tells me they will call me in 1 day to get something set up and have a technician come in 6-7 business days. However, i read that sony support is horrible. I am frustrated now and rather just return this laptop instead. I mean if i plug in a mouse, everything works fine but the touchpad is just erratic and seems to keep clicking itself.

Anyone have suggestion on what to do?

Just sounds like you have a faulty unit. Tell them you expect a replacement shipped out immediately and they can take the faulty one when they deliver the replacement.

Support is only ever as bad as you let it be. Get angry and ask to speak to higher management.

Okay right now at this moment the mousepad is okay but not that great. The left and right click works now. However.... the left click RIGHT CLICKS instead. I can confirm this because when i right click on background, i see the same thing when i left click it. Do you know if this is some setting problem instead? The left and right click works but left click right clicks...

Thanks as41. Anyone else? I am really hoping i could fix this problem because this laptop LOOKS VERY GOOD. If they have a technician come over, would he be able to fix this problem? I know i have 30 days to return it.

Hi there, I think that I might be able to help you solve this problem, in the notification area there should be an icon for the touchpad, right click this and then click Mouse Properties, then on the window that appears, it should display the Buttons options, if not then click on the buttons tab, at the bottom of the buttons options you will see a button that says Default, click this and then try the touch pad buttons again and see if they are ok now. I hope that this helps.

Also, under the buttons options, check to see if the list reads as follows, Left Button (Click), Right (Shortcut Menu).

There should be a tab which says Buttons, that is the tab which you need to click on. Another solution would be to go into Device Manager and uninstall and then reinstall the touch pad.

I don't see this fireblade. All i see under buttons are what i posted in the above post.

Also, here is another weird thing. If i have firefox open and just try to x it out... i can do this with the left and right click buttons. This does not make sense because since its a right click, its NOT suppose to close the page. Does anyone know what in the world is going on here?

    Under Buttons, it shows this

Button Configuration and gives me a check box whether or not to switch primary and secondary buttons

Double Click Speed and allows me to adjust it slow or fast

ClickLock and gives me option to turn on clickLock or not and thats it...

The button assignments sound as though they are swapped around, i.e you left click on the desktop and it's as though you've right clicked and the shortcut menu appears.

Is there a check mark, in the check box to switch primary and secondary buttons?

Is there not a list which says Button Selection, when you click on any of the tabs?

There is no checkmark. When i do click on checkmark, it shows the right click of touchpad BLUE. I think clicking the checkmark makes it for left handed people no? Well i tried it anyway and still its the same thing.

But don't you find it weird if i have firefox open and just try to x it out... i can do this with the left and right click buttons. This does not make sense because since its a right click, its NOT suppose to close the page. Does anyone know what in the world is going on here?

I see under mouse properties... buttons, pointer options, wheel and hardware.

Is that mouse properties concerning my MOUSE OR TOUCHPAD? Because i had zero problems when i plugged a mouse in. My problem is with my touchpad.

When you say you can x it out with the left and right click buttons, do you mean that you can do that using either of the buttons?

It's concerning your touch pad. It sounds to me as though there may be a problem with the touch pad on your vaio, which is causing it to malfunction. I would suggest that you ask for a replacement to be delivered to you, as you shouldn't need to adjust the touch pad at all in order to get it to work, it should be fine straight away, from when you first start using it.

    yes

I spoke to online support and they tell me judging from these problems, its 100 percent its a hardware issue and that there is no way i can fix this problem myself. They tell me they will get a technical support person over to fix it but it would take 8 business days at least....

Hey Drew1. Sorry to hear about the bad luck with the new comp. I never had this problem with my comp out of the box. I usually use a external mouse, but even with the touchpad, everything works as normal.

Judging by your frustration, Im assuming you already went through control panel and checked through the mouse options to see if anything is out of place. That's all I can think of, sorry :( Im not really an expert when it comes to comps so.

Yes jun85, i did everything with the control panel and support said if external mouse works, its 100 percent its hardware issue.

I will have tech support call me within 7 days they saw to schedule appointment. I am really feeling like just returning this laptop to sony and buying another one now. :(

Returning it and finding another one sounds like a good idea.
The time tech support contacts u and schedules a date may take time....and fixing it is maybe not a guarentee if they come...if u wait for that, it might be past your 30 days....and then it will be a whole different nightmare.

Returning it and finding another comp (thats not a lemon) will probably save you lots of time and stress

They actually told me having a technician come would actually be faster than shipping it back. I was also thinking.. isn't it a bad idea for them to open my computer? I mean i rather have a new one if you know what i mean.

I just talked to support and did trouble shooting and installed a driver. What is funny now is that the left and right click buttons don't even work anymore. However, the left click and button button works if i click on those items on my taskbar such as internet explorer and windows media player. But if i click it a 2nd time, a new explorer will show up. I cannot click on anything besides those 3 items on my taskbar with the left/right click now.

Ya, and who knows what else they might "accidentally" touch and screw something else on the comp. You probably won't have that "its new" feeling afterwards, which you should have :D.

Hey jun, would you think its a bad idea to return the laptop and then buy the sager5135? It has 1080p as well and i heard the battery life is better than the sony. I heard many people don't like sony eb series because of its poor battery life. However, the sager has 3 plus hours of battery life and looks very plain looking and the vaio looks very good.
