I thought I had finally figured out what laptop I was going to get. After seeing the new Sony F1290 I thought this was the one. My question is the optional NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 330M GPU (1GB VRAM) compatible with CS5 Photoshop? I need to be able to use CS5 but I don't see this card on the Adobe web site as being compatible with CS5. If this one won't work, can anyone recommend a laptop with a 15" or so screen that would work? I am in Canada if that makes any difference as to what is available.

I'd be really surprised if the 330M is really not supported. It most likely is, if not listed. Of course, I could be wrong, but it seems very unlikely. It's a very recent and capable video card from Nvidia.

I just checked, and it says the requirements for Photoshop CS5 include "Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0," which the 330M does more than well enough. It also has 1 GB VRAM, much more than the 256 MB required.

Don't know about F1290 but I have VPCZ1190 with NVIDIA GT 330M and Photoshop CS5 Extended detected it just fine and uses OpenGL drawing etc. Have not seen any issues thus far. GT 330M also works nicely with Cinema4D 11.5 here, if you are interested.

How good is running Photoshop CS5 with Intel HD integrated graphics like Vaio Z in stamina mode? I am thinking about carrying the Z on a road trip with my DSLR. Battery life would be very important to me, so I would be reluctant to set the Z in speed mode.

Probably an easy one, but is the Windows 7 that is shipped with the Vaio F1290 64 bit or 32 bit?

Hi Brad, as (unfortunately) cross posted in the other thread, the 330m on the Vaio's is now properly supported and works GREAT.

8Gb + GPU acceleration and it flies :D
