It is no longer available! Thanks to the recording industry, the sound chip drivers no longer offer this as an option since it was a "back door" way to recording copyrighted material. That really sucks, since it was also a good way to record legal material as well. However there are still ways to get around the issue. Apps like Audacity and others will allow you to record the output from the sound card.

thanks for reply
are those applicaions as quality as that Stereo Mix? -
hmm, how can I stream then when I do live sets from the laptop? since I usually choose stereo mix when I used shoutcast.

Yep, exactly the same. These apps are somehow able to intercept the stream.

Unless the shoutcast app can interecept the stream like Audacity does you won't be able to. I would think that shoutcast has this figured out though. Contact them and ask. This is a common issue with Vista and the DRM foisted on Microsoft by the RIAA.

really? I have vista ultimate installed on my home pc, and I can still use stereo mix in the sound properties for recording and then streaming my mixes.
I guess the soundcard is different in the laptop? -

This is totally dependent on the audio driver.

interesting, I hope this is not an issue on the FW290, otherwise will have to find a way around it.

Pretty sure that it is, and you will.
Gary -
well it's not available in the 290, no stereo mix so i can't stream my mixes, kind of cruddy, but not a deal breaker, perhaps there will be a fix in the future.

Don't count on it. This has been done as part of DRM, therefore there is little to suggest it will be reversed. That is not to say that there won't be workarounds, but those will have to be at the individual application level. A stereo mix source listed as a driver supplied input to recording apps, isn't going to happen. Unless Sony decides to back away from DRM.
