right now there's a sale going on for customizable vaio FZs..
i can save about 270 dollars on my laptop, but is it worth it buying just weeks before the new Centrino 2 platform comes out??
the sale ends may 27th.
i'm interested in getting the best deal for my money. will the montevina platform be more expensive? and is it a big enough improvement for me to just wait it out?
Specs:
Vaio FZ, T8300, 3GB RAM, 200GB 7200RPM HD, 8400M GT.
also, i have another question about the polished mosaic keyboard vs. the black keyboard.
i heard that the mosaic one isn't very durable and starts chipping off.
anyways, any info or criticisms you can give me regarding the FZ or maybe a better laptop choice is extremely welcome.

I have a Vaio FZ, T7500, 2GB RAM, 200GB 5400RPM HD, 8400M GT this one working great
I payed for this configuration 1600$ 6 months ago. -
Montevina will not be more expensive in the base-price -- they just don't get many promotional discount. So, yeah, you would have to pay more for them.
Performance improvement? There will be, but it usually won't justify the price when it's first released -- many people are still finding laptops with T7500 to be the best bargain right now.
Not sure about the keyboard, I use White (FZ Standard), but it's not available any more.
I really love my FZ, the only noticeable flaw is that is has a relatively short battery life, but I knew that going in and I knew I don't care because I am using it as a desktop-replacement.
Better laptop choices? Well, you need to go to the "what laptop should I buy" and fill out the questionnaire so people can give you some recommendations. -
thanks for the advice. i think i'm going to go with the FZ with black keyboard, i saw the polished mosaic in pictures and it looked so glossy..
i was also considering the toshiba a300, but it's just too ugly and shiny for me..
update:
i went ahead and ordered it and ended up jumping for 4 gigs of ram.

i dont understand how it came up so cheap, but i logged into my sonystyle account and the prices for the components [which were already on sale] were even lower.
the starting price for the CTO was 935 dollars instead of 1039.99. if anyone's planning on ordering
with shipping and tax, it added up to $1,197.48
i don't know if it was a mistake, so i guess i'll just have to wait and see.. -
Wholly crap - that is a great price!
