    Hi,
I just received my Sony vaio FZ 190 CTO, and ran the speedfan to check the core temperature of my notebook. Apparently, the results are as follow:
    Core0: 63C
    core1: 66C
Should I be concerned about these temperatures?
    thanks

Yes those sound very high. That's about 150 F.

Do you hear the fan running?

I am running at 81 F or about 27 C. Your temps are nearly double that. Is the fan running pretty loud? Are all of the slots in the case unobstructed? What is the surface you have it sitting on right now? If it is your lap, a bed or something soft, place it on a flat HARD surface like a desk and see what happens to the temps. Keep Speedfan running and monitor this closely.

The fans are running quite loudly, the slots are not blocked i think. Do you want me to reboot the computer and run it on a hard surface?
    thanks

No just put it on a hard surface and let it be for a few minutes and see if the temps drop.

Make sure NONE of the vents are blocked. There are some on the bottom and the left side.

ABSOLUTELY!!! If the ambient temp is 100 degrees F, you will not get your CPU temps below 100 degrees F. What is the temp in the room where the FZ is right now? Have your temps dropped at all since we started this discussion?

the ambient temp is about 100+ F in LA, theres not much of a difference in the core temperature still. It is running in the 60s range.
    thanks

I was not asking about the OUTSIDE temp. What is the temp in the room where the FZ is running right now? Is it in an air conditioned room, or in a room with open windows where the ROOM temperature is 100 degrees?

What applications do you have running? Close every application except IE and SpeedFan let it set for five minutes and check the temps again. Are you connected to the internet via wireless or wired? If wireless how strong is your signal? How far is the FZ190 from the wireless access pont/router?

So the room is at 100 degrees then, right? I am in air conditioning at 76 degrees room temp and my core temps are both 82 f. (BTW why don't you switch speedfan to F instead of C. It will make comparisons and references to the ambient temp make more sense.

So I am running IE, SpeedFan and Outlook only. And I am running about 6 degrees above ambient temp. BTW have you made ANY changes to SpeedFan settings, like the offsets?

hope your not having any problems man, the heat wave sounds like it would definitly effect humidity even in an air conditioned room. I want to buy a sony but I'm just worried about the heating issues myself.

    goodluck!

Ody is the only one who has reported any real heating issues thus far. Mine as you can see from the numbers above runs nice and cool.

    Hi Gary,

I am also facing heat problem in my FZ. Below are my speedfan readings after 5-10 mins of initial startup.
    HD0 - 99F
    Temp1 - 122F
    Temp2 - 122F
    Core1 - 108F
    Core2 - 108F

I am getting even higher temparatures by noon time. I will post my temparatures again when it is really hot.

One VERY important number is missing here, what is the ROOM termperature where the machine is operating? Remember the cooling in these machines is only done with FANS, there is no active cooling at all. Therefore the lowest temp the machine will ever be able to accomplish is whatever the current room temp might be. If the room is 95 degrees, then 108 is only 13 degrees above ambient. But if the room is 78 degrees then 108 is a different kettle of fish!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!! Anyone leaving temperature numbers here be sure to include the ROOM temperature. Without that we really can't truly compare notes. Like I told ODY if the room temp is 100 degrees, he is NEVER going to see a number less than that.

    Hi Gary,
very sorry for the late reply didn't have any time to post on the forums. Anyway, heres the latest test I did and the temperature seems to have gone down quite a bit from, taking in account to your suggestions, but still just to verify if the temperatures are acceptable.
    HD0: 39C
    Temp1: 46C
    Temp2: 46C
    Core 0: 28C
    Core 1: 30C
ps: the ambient temperature does play a huge factor here

I don't have a FZ but I do have a Sony C-Series. With my Core2Duo, my CPU idles around 55-60C on really hot days(28C+). On cooler days, it'll idle anywhere from 46C to 54C. If it goes lower than 46C, the fan stops until it reaches 60C at which point it'll turn on again. In fact I've had my laptop running at 90C while testing it with no ill results.
    :p
(Yeah, the program lists my processor as a Pentium M for some reason)
