So I just got my VAIO through FedEx yesterday.

    Specs:
    T7500 - 2.2Ghz
    4GB RAM
    250GB HD
    8400M GT

First thing I did was to format the HD and install Vista x64 so that I can utilize 4GB of RAM. I usually run a lot of applications at once, so that's why I need 4GB of RAM.

THEN... The horror... I realized that Sony doesn't support Vista x64! Currently, there are NO drivers for Vista x64. I looked all over the net, but I was only able to locate Sony Shared DLL (works for both 32/64), Intel Chipset (works for both 32/64), Wireless LAN driver (works for both 32/64), and LAN driver (from googling). There is a lot of missing drivers still, including the 8400m GT and Sigmatel HD Audio codec (Dell's driver didn't work).

My question is, why do they sell 64-bit capable CPUs if they're not going to support 64 bit OS? I was trying to get the most out of my CPU since I paid a good chunk of $ for it.

If anyone can help me find some of these drivers, I would deeply, deeply appreciate it. Then, I can post my Vista x64 experience on FZ190.

Following drivers are needed to make x64 fully functional:
    nVidia 8400M GT
Texas Instruments Integrated FlashMedia Controller 2.0.0.18
Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller Driver (tried one x64 driver, but no luck)
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC (Dell's driver didn't work)
Toshiba Bluetooth Driver (Tried several x64 drivers, without luck)
Conexant HDAUDIO SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
Texas Instruments PCIxx12 FlashMedia Controller Driver
    Alps Pointing Device Driver

Drivers that currently work with Vista x64:
    WLAN driver
    LAN driver
    Intel Chipset
    Sony Shared DLLs

    Thanks in advance!

I contacted Sony to maybe get some help finding the drivers (I'm starting to think that I may be the only one trying x64 on FZ190).

Here's what I wrote: "I know that Sony doesn't support Windows Vista x64. However, I have 4GB of RAM in my laptop and the processor is 64-bit capable. I'd like to get the most out of the laptop that I just purchased. Why would Sony sell 64-bit processors if it's not going to support 64-bit OS? I also know that Vista x64 won't ever be fully supported by Sony. However, for those individuals trying to upgrade their OS to x64, will drivers ever be made? If so, when should I expect them? I really need the following drivers: nVidia 8400M GT, Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller Driver, SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, Toshiba Bluetooth Driver, and Alps Pointing Device Driver. Do you know where I can find these drivers??? ANY help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!!!"

I'll see what they have to say about that.

    :::UPDATES:::

I was able to install 4 drivers for x64 (still waiting to hear back from Sony):

Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller Driver
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101

    Toshiba Bluetooth Driver
    http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/pages/download.php

Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller Driver
    http://h20000.www.hp.com/bizsupport...cc=us&swItem=ob-47670-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

    Alps Pointing Device Driver
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...softwareitem=ob-51805-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
(Still can't use the scroll function though...)

I guess the main thing now is the driver for 8400M GT! I'll be happy if I can get my hands on that.

Drivers that are still not found for x64:
    nVidia 8400M GT
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC (Sound works without it)
Conexant HDAUDIO SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP (I don't have a use for modems, so I could care less about this)

    :::Update #2:::

I got the graphics card to work!!!

First off, let me say that the response from Sony was dissatisfying. Really. Here's what they said twice (I sent them 2 separate e-mails regarding Vista x64 with different questions). The reply was the same both times - really generic. "Thank you for contacting Sony Online Support. We're sorry for the difficulties you're experiencing with the 64 bit Operating System supported drivers. Currently, Sony does not support or assist the Windows Vista Ultimate edition. Sony's VAIO computers are designed for, and supported under, the OEM version of Windows pre-installed at our factory. If you install any other operating system in your system, you will need to contact the manufacturer of that operating system for any and all support issues or device drivers and software utilities they may have available. This includes, but is not limited to alternate versions of Windows and/or dual-boot configurations. Although Sony may choose to provide limited device drivers or software updates to assist with the basic compatibility issues for Microsoft's newer operating systems, we can not warrant nor guarantee the full usability, or functionality, of our PCs when running under an alternative operating system. Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance. Your Sony Email Response Team - Nicholas" It was a different guy the first time.

So, now here's how I installed the drivers. I read somewhere that 8400GT can be comparable to underclocked version of 8600GS. So I figured I'd install the 8600GS drivers as 8400GT. You know where I'm going with this right? I downloaded the nVidia Forceware X101.19 driver from www.laptopvideo2go.com, downloaded the modded .inf file, then changed one thing. In the modded .inf file, find & replace "8600M GS" with "8400M GT." Then... voila! It will install. Be patient though, it may take 5-10 minutes to install.

Now I'm getting pretty good Windows Experience Index scores:
    Processor: 5.1
    Mem: 4.8
    Graphics - Desktop performance: 5.9
    Gaming graphics - 5.2
    Primary hard disk - 4.4

    :D

NOW, the only drivers that I'm looking for are:
    Sigmatel HD Audio Codec
Conexant HDAUDIO SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP

If anyone can help me find these drivers, I'd appreciate it. Thanks~

Why not just install the std nVidia drivers? Will they not work?

What version of vista OS did you ordered from Sony (Home, Buiseness, Ultimate). They do offer Ultimate version, though its 32 bit.

I tried nVidia driver from the Sony site, but it only supports 32 bit OS. That's the only reason I found an alternative way to install the driver for Vista x64.

smooth, did you ever figure out where to find the remaining drivers? Or, alternately, are there any issues left with your x64 version?

No, I'm still looking for the correct sound drivers (headphone doesn't work. i still hear the sound from the laptop speakers when a pair of headphones are plugged in) and the modem drivers (i don't really mind not having it). I can also use the scroll function on the touchpad (Alps pointing device driver installed, but scroll function doesn't work yet). Other than that, everything else is rolling smoothly!

Well right now with my SZ 650 I can't get find a 64-bit fingerprint driver and I haven't tried but doubt I will be able to get the webcam and customizable buttons to work.

The big stuff was pretty easy to do, actually.

Oh I found the modem.......I forget what page it was on, but this was slightly useful to me

I think I might be giving up and just going with x86 vista though...not being able to use some of the laptop's features is not very appealing

Hi, I have just about the same problems as you have, but on the european FZ11M which I think is the same model...

The only driver that isnt installed for me is the one for SNY5001 which is the Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device. I´ve also contacted the Sony support but after their answer I´m dure they are both incompetent and unwilling to help...

    3. Detailed problem description: Hi,

I´m looking for 64-bit drivers for my new Vaio laptop but it seems like some are missing. I´ve been running 64 bit OS on all systems I use for the last 2 years and since the laptop is 64-bit capable I istalled 64-bit Vista on it of course, but it seems like I´m missing onte driver for a device called SNY5001, which is a Sony specific device. I was also missing drivers for the bluetooth and for the card-reader, but I found solution for those devices on the websites provided by Hitachi and HP respectively. Do you have any driver that would work for this SNY5001 device it would be very helpful, even a beta or alpha testversion would be a viable solution for me.

(I hope I don´t get one of those we don´t support anything but the old x86 windows that would be really disappointing)

    Kind Regards

    Dear Mr XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Thank you for contacting us.

Sony do not manufacture 64-bit machines.
I do not know why you thought the computer was 64 bit capable but you were missinformed.
Even though you may be able to run a 64 -bit operating system you will not be using 64-bits.
We do not have any drivers for this and have no plans to start supporting 64-bit systems.
Sorry we cannot be of more help but in this instace we can only advise you to revert back to the original operating system.

    Regards

I have a Sony VAIO SZ640 and installed Vista 64-bit. There are 2 things that I have not gotten to work yet.
    1. Bluetooth
    2. Web Cam

    Bluetooth
First I installed the x64 version of the Toshiba driver provided in a link in this thread. It installed OK - no error messages. I see the bluetooth light is on (next to WLAN and HDD lights). I tried to pair my Logitech V270 mouse and it doesn't find it. I "Start Bluetooth" command on the bluetooth taskbar icon and it'll say something about putting my device in discovery mode and click OK. I do that, and it never finds it. I tried paring my Motorola Q and it doesn't find that either.

Then I tried to install the Widcomm 5 driver i read about in: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=43865&highlight=widcomm+bluetooth. I follow the instructions there but when I turn on Bluetooth (using the Wireless button on the laptop) it never prompts me to install new drivers.

I look inside Device Manager but I don't see anything about Bluetooth. I have 2 'unknown devices' and missing drivers for 'mass storage controller' and 'ugx'

Also, I uninstalled the SmartWi program. I get this really annoying crash with it. Something about the .NET framework and JIT.

    Webcam
This is not as critical - but my webcam doesn't work either. I requested a hotfix I found on Microsoft knowledge base that might solve it.

I think these are the only 2 devices that I haven't got to work.

What is the 'Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller Driver' for? I have a Sony VAIO SZ640 with a 200GB 7200RPM drive. I clicked on the link for that SATA driver and it appears to be a driver for the Intel MATRIX RAID controller. THere's only 1 HDD in here so I doubt there's a RAID controller (that would be cool though).

    Hi All,

First post here, so apologies if this has already been asked.

I've got a Sony VGN-SZ38GP with Vista x64 installed and mostly working - well no webcam or fingerprint scanner but I can live with out that.

What I really want to get working though is the screen brightness adjustment. I find it's always super bright and burns through a full battery in just over an hour...

Anyone managed to get this working?

    Brad

I haven't got the FN brightness buttons to work yet, but haven't tried too hard.

The other way is to right-click on the battery icon in your task bar - go to Windows Mobility Center - and you should see the brightness controls there.

** Giving up on Vista 64-bit (for now) **

I'm giving up on Vista 64-bit and my Sony. No webcam, bluetooth, fingerprint, audio/headphones don't work, Nvidia driver is hacked and performs pretty slow, FN buttons don't work...and all that for an extra gigabyte of RAM.

Maybe I'll put Vista x64 on once the drivers are out there.

Yea, I gave up Vista x64 yesterday as well. Instead, I installed Windows XP Pro (32bit). So I'm dualbooting with Vista and XP (both x86). I needed XP, because I'm currently taking a class that requires software installation which is fully campatible with only pre-Vista Windows.

I am VERY impressed with how XP runs on my FZ190E. I had to slipstream the sata driver into the Windows XP Pro CD, since I didn't want to dish out $ for a floppy drive that I would only use once (they were selling it at $50 at Best Buy... What a rip off! On-line shopping is cheaper, but I didn't want to wait for shipping).

There is a plenty of resources within this forum to find drivers to run XP on FZ190.

Man, I'm really tempted to use XP Pro as the main OS for a little while... It loads quicker, and outperforms Vista... At least for now. Let's hope that SP1 for Vista makes a difference!

It is a pain to find drivers for Windows XP on FZ190E/B. I've been working on it for hours. Slipstreaming the SATA driver in the Windows XP disc was easy, but finding drivers like Conexant® HDAUDIO SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP and SigmaTel® High Definition Audio CODEC is turning out to be difficult. I had to get the TI drivers from HP for that to work.

Still no 64-bit drivers but almost working :)

    I'm on a SZ61 Ultimate 64 SP1 RC1 and all is working except:

*Webcam issue, have to reboot a multiple time to see it.

*The headphones is not recognize but sound is working.
I'm now trying the Sigmatel here from Sony AR5, it might work:
    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/DOWNLOADS/ST/D/AUD/STDAUD-01487701-UN.EXE
    EDIT: headphones working :)

*Sony vaio update 3, not launching at all, maybe because my original OS was in German and now it's in French, maybe a serial issue by country/language ?

    Happy new year,

    Hello,

Many thanks for the link to vaio-link and happy new year from France !!!

I'm running Vista x64 Enterprise on a SZ61WN and all works, except for the webcam !! I'm on it right now, and after a dozen install/uninstall, it still not works !!

    - I've tried installing x64 drivers provided by your vaio link -> does not work ( Une tentavive d'initialisation de l'appareil photo a échoué)

    - I've tried installing x64 drivers provided by your vaio link manually -> does not work ( the INF file you selected does not support this method of installation)

    - I've tried x32 drivers -> does not work ( the device cannot start (Code 10))

    - I've tried upgrading x32 drivers with x64 drivers provided by your vaio link -> does not work ( Camera Capture Utility is blank, even after KB931812-x64)

    - I've tried switching to "USB Video Device" then apply x64 drivers -> does not work ( the device cannot start (Code 10))

Could you help me please ?

Still trying to fix the camera, as it's working only a few times, not always.
I have an error like the camera is already in use. So I assume usbvideo.sys from the OS is loading instead or before the camera drivers. As I have a dual boot with the original OS 32 bits, I will try to see if the generic driver could be enough.

Is your vaio update working ?

    Later on,
    Francois

EDIT: bad news, the camera is only working when I restart my computer in Vista 32 bits, then I restart to Vista 64 and there the camera is working. If I restart again on Vista 64, still working. But if I shutdown the system and then restart on Vista 64, it's not working anymore, it's like something was load into the camera which is compatible with Vista 64. Hoping Sony will release 64 bits drivers for VCC7 as they did for VCC6 and VCC8.

Does anyone know where we can get real support and not automated answers ?

I'm asking that because Sony provided 64 bits drivers for VCC5,6 and 8 but it's like they forgot it for VCC7.

    Thanks,

Thanks Interdit for the 64 bit driver link. I also have everything working, including all the function keys, s1, s2 etc, except the webcam. I found the Vista x64 performance noticeably faster than 32 bit. I hope Sony will release the 64 bit webcam driver for VCC7. Btw, where did you locate the 64 bit drivers for VCC5,6 & 8?

Interdit, thank you for your help on the 64bit link. It was just the information that I needed. I still need to get my modem driver and special keys working.

I've tried the drivers for the new SZ7 and TZ21 models (VCC7). There are available on vaio-link ftp site. Same drivers release as SZ6 models -> No luck so far... :(

For months I was reading this thread to see if someone found a solution for the webcam issue.

Today I've just found a solution. And for my surprise it was there for a long time....

    1) update your usb drivers (go to intel's site and download the chipset tool)
I will post it here but always check for the newest tool location

    Intel chipset device software instaler:
    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/14528/a08/infinst_autol.exe

    2) that's the most important:
Download the webcam driver mentioned at sony's website (belive it or not, it was always there...)

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNFZ285U&upd_id=3051&os_id=30

When Vista asks you to confirm installation see aditional information and find the TEMP folder location where it'll extract the drivers in order to do the installation. Confirm Vista's question but DO NOT click "next" once you are in Sony's instalation program.

    Path example:
    C:\Users\Cruz\AppData\Local\Temp\GAFDS
You can also order the files by date or search for these files in Temp folder
    DPInst64.exe, R5U870FLamd64.sys,...

It's important to do not proceed because Windows may delete the folder after the installation...

Browse the drive and you'll see a file called DPInst64.exe.... Run it and that's it, the correct drives whill be installed for Vista 64!!!

What really pisses me off is to know that Sony's can do a better install program but does not.... Why that?

Please let me know if it works for you.... I hope so because I was having this problem for months...

    - The driver ( http://tc.versiontracker.com/product....0.2_VISTA.EXE ) installs correctly on my sz6, but no apps can use the camera then. I didn't try Skype, i don't use it. I'd like VAIO Camera Capture to work ;) ...

    - FN brightness works fine for me. Just install SFEP (or SonyNC), SonyPI, and "VAIO Event Service"...

Anybody tried checking on the Japanese websites to see if they happen to have a driver package for the VGP-VCC7 camera?

I have successfully gotten all drivers (but the camera) to install on Windows XP x86. I put the driver files on my website. http://www.mts7.com/downloads.php I tried to get x64 to work, but I'm having many difficulties.

Currently, I am still needing Mass Storage Controller, Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus, UGX, Unknown Device, SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC (for 64-bit Windows), Conexant Setup API, Serial, and the webcam drivers. I've tried so many different drivers, but XP x64 just isn't too compatible yet. :(

I really hope Sony gets its act together someday and provides zip files to download instead of their exe files.

I tried varios RICOH drivers, but I still only get a black picture with my camera and it still shows up as a USB Video Device. :( I'm really thinking about putting Vista x86 back on my notebook. :'(

hey guys, great post - seriously.

    I own the Sony FZ31M (it's a European model)

And I purchased 2x2GB ram modules to have the 4GB as me and another team member are multimedia developers and need the ram and the 64 bit extensions.

At first I tried XP x64 but due to lack of drivers I gave up.

Now i've got Vista SP1 x64 up and running with all but the webcam working, which is fine.

As for the function keys they don't work and it seems I should use the
    Code:
    http://vcl.vaio.sony.co.jp/download/unofficial/64/001.html
    I have downloaded the EP0000140021 : SFEP(Sony)and the EP0000140022 : SPIC(Sony)but do not know how to proceed.

The installers for the VAIO utilities seem to install but do not do anything else.

So people who have posted above, how did you get your fn keys to work?

Finally, all is working smoothly on my SZ6 with Vista x64 ... :)

My webcam is working fine using Pdudas VGP-VCC7 driver (Sony Camera Capture does not work, but Virtual Dub does ).

Here is my installation process, in the correct order and without any errors in Event Viewer.
All drivers are from Sony x64 drivers site, except for the blue ones :

(Fresh install of Vista x64 in Stamina mode)
    - Intel Chipset 8.3.1.1009
    - SFEP (Sony Firmware Extension Parser)
    - SonyPI (Sony Programmable I/O Control)
    - MemoryCard driver (Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller)
    - Fingerprint driver
    - ALPS Integrated Bluetooth Device driver (the one included in Vista, not the Toshiba one)
    (reboot)
    - Intel Graphics Driver 7.14.10.1295
    (reboot)
    (reboot again in Speed Mode)
    - NVidia Graphics Driver 169.25 (the Synthesia one)
    (reboot)
    (reboot again in Stamina mode)
    - VGP-VCC7 Webcam driver (the Pdudas one)
    - IDT Audio driver (the Synthesia one)
    - Sony Utilities DLL 7.1.00.15150
    - Sony Shared Library 3.0.00.10180
    (reboot)
    - VAIO Event Service 3.1.00.14130 (to enable Fn keys)
    - Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package x86 (used by VAIO Smart Network)
    (reboot)
    - VAIO Smart Network 1.0.00.06150 (to start the WWAN integrated card)
    - WWAN drivers
    (reboot)
    - UPEK Protector Suite QL 5.6 x64
    (reboot)
    - Orange Business Services for WWAN 1.17FR (from Orange, optional)
    (reboot)
    - Vista x64 Service Pack 1 (not related, all is working before applying it)

That's it. No other Sony crap software except the 4 above ones. I do not use HDD Protection driver and utility.

Thanks to Interdit, Pdudas and Synthesia for their precious help.
I hope this can help someone.

    Have a nice day.

When you say "All drivers are from Sony x64 support site, except for the blue ones" : Can you provide a link to this Sony x64 support?

    Thanks,
