Can anyone tell me how this laptop runs? I want to know things like battery life, boot time, how well some games run, and how it just feels.

You might get some answers if you ask this in the FZ thread.

Regarding the VGN-FZ440, I have the 430E, which has no video card (on-board graphics) I feel it is a cut above the mainstream, and worth the money, I had previously a Retail (380)version with the Video card and was not happy with the battery life, heat, noise thing, not overwhelming but I do not use my laptop for gaming. Circuit City was very gracious in exchanging for this model which better suits my needs. There is always the issue of "bloatware" anti-virus etc. that affect the system start up. The Sony has understated looks, and a durable finish, Sony has the best laptop screens. The model that you are looking at- The battery will last about an hour with the video card, in high performance mode. The optional large capacity battery is $249 as an accessory. If you think you really need the dedicated graphics, and want to have 2 plus hours, I would suggest a Configure to Order, from the Sony Site, the BIG battery is only $100 upgrade. (I am getting about 2.5 hours on the standard battery with mine, it is quiet and cool.) (like me!)

I have recently bought this laptop. It sounds gr8 in every aspects except battery life.
Especially there is stunning screen clarity. Ofcourse Sony stands forever in LCD views when compared to all brands.

Initially, I had an option to buy Toshiba A305 S6845 specifically for efficient gaming purpose(512MB dedicated graphix memory). But atlast stucked to Fz440E due to its slim and sleek shape.
I also see, it competes Toshiba A305 in gaming factor.

I wud also welcome suggestions for 3D gaming performance between Sony FZ440E and Toshiba A305 S6845.
