    Hey guys,

So I purchased a Sony Vaio Fit 15" this wednesday, (model SVF15A1M2ES) drove home quite happy about my new laptop and plugged it in for a first boot. I immediately noticed an audible, strange noise emitting from the left part of the keyboard, where the CPU resides. It was high pitched in and much louder than the regular sound of a fan blowing. I figured it was just something that would go away, but here I am, having updated everything possible, still hearing the sound. Worse, it gets louder when the CPU kicks in to higher gear.

It's really quite annoying and I'm fairly sure there's something wrong. It is a lot louder than the fans, I could describe it as a "whine" or something. Another thing that convinces me that something is wrong is the fact that there's another SVF laptop in my household, key difference it has an i7 CPU instead of the i5 in this one, and it never produced such noise.

Sometimes when the laptop is completely idle the whine goes away, but comes back even at the slightest increase in processor performance.

Unfortunately I bought the laptop from a retail and their return policy is quite strict, only accepting returns that are in unsealed packaging. Their first choice would definitely be to send the laptop for a maintenance, which is irritating itself considering my large investment into this thing.

Have you guys experienced something similar? I just can't accept that this is normal, the whine is so incredibly distinct from the cooling fan hum that it drives me crazy, especially when there's no background sound.

High pitched almost inaudible? Sounds like a bad capacitor. Especially if it doesn't vary in loudness along with the normal fan noise.
