    Hello

Recently bought a SONY VAIO FJ290P1/R. It is a neat laptop. However, I have noticed that even when the unit is shutdown and not connected to the main power, there is a very slight whirring noise emanating from the back of the laptop.

When, I remove the battery unit, the noise disappears. Is that a known issue or am I experiencing something wierd?

Anyone, who happens to have had a similar problem please let me know.

    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Anish

I'm having the same situation as you. I have a FJ270 and it too is making the noise when the laptop is not connected to the main power, and it disappears when I remove the battery. It also makes a high pitched noise when it's turned on and isn't connect to the main power. It is really weird.

If anyone knows anything, please help. Thanks.

I dont know, I have not noticed anything on my FJ270, but for all 4hrs that I have been using it (I bought it only yesterday) it has been plugged in. I just removed the power, and did hear a slight noise, as describrd. Possibly its the battery?

Well, I did a little playing around with my laptop yesterday after I posted, and I got rid of the noise when it is turned on and running on battery. I started plugging things in the USB ports, firewire, and PC card slot but it still made the noise. So then I decided to use the camera, and the noise stopped. Once I stopped using it, the noise began again. I disabled the camera and the noise stopped for good. This is only when the laptop is running on the battery. I hardly use the camera anyway. I hope this helps.

I still don't know about the noise that is made when the laptop is off, but I can hardly notice it. But if anyone has any other info on this, please share. Thanks
