Hi guys, I've had the dreaded inexplicable power loss in the middle of a bios update for my laptop (model: SVF13N15CDB), bricking it. I can power it on and I know that it can access the USB drive because the USB drive led blinks once during power on. However, I can't get it to flash from the bios file on the drive.

I'm following the steps established by user pyr0 in this thread years back, but modified for my model. Basically, I tried this:
    1. Download the BIOS update file R1130VA
    2. Format a USB Flashdrive with fat32 filesystem
    3. Extract the update file, rename the *.ROM to *.fd, and transfer to the USB flashdrive
    4. Use window's "safely remove" to unmount the flashdrive and go to your broken notebook
    5. Plug in the prepared USB flashdrive
    6. Unplug AC adapter from notebook
    7. Press and hold Fn + Esc together
    8. Plug in AC adapter while holding these two buttons
    9. Turn on the notebook with the keys still pressed and release the buttons once LED lights come on
    10. The laptop beeps every second while it recovers from the repair flash on the USB flashdrive
    11. It should reboot automatically and you should see a POST.

But no luck. After the initial blink of the USB drive, no more LED activity on it is observed. I have also tried Ctrl+Esc and Alt+Esc key combos. When should I be letting go of these key combos - when any LED on the system turns on, or just the USB drive? Also, should I be renaming the *.ROM to *.fd?

I think pyr0 might be able to help me, since he was so enthusiastic to help that other user (he is still active according to his user profile, but was last on in October). If anyone can please PM pyr0 for me and direct him to this thread, I will be very appreciative. Thank you,

@mandah89: I don't have any experience doing bios mods, but if you want to try it yourself I would try this:

    1. download the bios for your laptop: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=SVF15328CXB&upd_id=10256&os_group_id=27
    2. install 7zip and then open the bios file you downloaded in 7zip.
    3. extract everything in that bios file to a blank flashdrive formatted as "fat32". don't rename any files.
    4. follow the instructions Awinner posted at the top of this thread. Also read this thread for more understanding.
    5. after you try the key combinations for booting, wait several minutes to see if the flash is doing anything.

    @AWinner check this page: https://www.bios-mods.com/bios-recovery/insyde-bios-recovery/
some comments from some of the links there are saying to just extract all the bios files onto the flash drive.
try waiting several minutes to see if the flash is doing anything.
