    Hey Guys,

I called up Sony and asked them whats the fix for the below:

    1. AV Mode Button can not be used.
    2. Instant On mode can not be used.
    3. Fn+F5/Fn+F6 Function Key(Brightness Control) can not be used.
    4. Fn+F10(Zoom in/out function) can not be used.
    5. When connect with HDMI, the sound output does not work.

They informed me to go to:

    http://www.sony-asia.com/support/do...g/sectionfirst?site=hp_en_AP_i&subpage=detail

    and download and reinstall:

    1) Sony Utility DLL
    2) Viao Event Services
    3) Sony Shared library
    4) Settings Utility Services

He confirms that these four downloads should solve the Fn Key Problem.

Can anyone try and let me know if it works? If not I'll call them again and tell them :)

Well the very page they told you to go to clearly states that these issues will remain AFTER you install the drivers and utilities. I am not sure why the rep you spoke to would think otherwise.

Hello guys.. if anyone is still trying to fix this... I just download the following moded INF and video driver.

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18050

It works for me. VAIO FZ250FE with Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT and Windows XP PRO SP2.

Sony VAIO nVidia XP driver v6.14.11.5666 INF modified with Pieter's INF version 3.254 for use with LaptopVideo2Go's v174.74 32-bit XP driver

Brightness control supported for all Sony VAIO notebooks containing the following nVidia graphics devices:
    - NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400
    - NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
    - NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 GT
    - NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    - NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G
    - NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT

    Notes:
    - If you already have an existing nVidia driver installed, uninstall it with its Uninstaller, then use Driver Sweeper to remove any remaining files/registry keys and reboot before you attempt to install this driver. http://tinyurl.com/2sq2ks

    - Overwrite the existing nv4_disp.inf in 17474.exe with this file.

    - The old control panel display is used in this inf by default; right click on the Desktop to access it. If you'd like to use the new control panel instead, comment out the "Old Control Panel" section in the inf (search for that string) and remove the semicolons from the "New Control Panel" section. If you'd like to switch to a different control panel after you've installed the driver, go to the registry where the control panel settings are located and modify the policy values. The changes will take into effect after Windows XP is restarted.

    - In order to enable Fn brightness control, you'll need to adjust the SmartDimmer slider in this picture: New: http://tinyurl.com/5tonpm , Old: http://tinyurl.com/yug2aq and apply the changes.

    - Use this driver in conjunction with VAIO Power Management.

    Hi guys,

This is my first post, and the preceding discussion I found very helpful. I've got an FZ11L and downgraded to XP Pro SP3. Using the drivers and apps supplied from the Sony Asia site, I've managed to get pretty much everything to work.

nVidia 6400M GT - used modded drivers from laptopvideo2go.com

All my fn keys are working: brightness control, external output (though not actually plugged something in yet to test), mute, and hibernate. The S key I've set for sleep, and that works too. Volume is controlled by the round keypad thingy next to the power switch. Pressing skip or previous on this keypad scrolls up or down - haven't tried a DVD yet. The AV mode button called an app which crashed from calling an exception. (No worries - I'm not even sure what it's for...) The touchpad works very well and has some cool customizable features from the supplied app. Power management is working: if I unplug my vaio the screen dims (as I've set it to) and the little cpu meter in the system tray moves to the left. (Whether the cpu ACTUALLY slows I haven't checked yet...)

So I'm really pleased, and I'm going to do a drive-image now to preserve this almost pristine state! If people are still struggling, let me know and I'll try'n help.

    Cheers,
    Gareth

hey blueworks, I have the same model of laptop and I want to change my OS to WinXp, but I'm having problems with the drivers

I have found this page http://www.sony.com.sg/support/download/230805/product/vgn-fz25g?site=hp_en_SG_i where it is said "Windows XP Drivers for VGN-FZ2 Series" and also "Applicable Models:
    VGN-FZ25S, VGN-FZ25G, VGN-FZ27G, VGN-FZ28S, VGN-FZ28G, VGN-FZ25M, VGN-FZ25GN".. I want to know if my VGN-FZ250FE is then supported...

but I'm not an expert on these topics, so I would be pleased if somebody can help me to do this...

    thanks in advance

I've an sz with xp on it and i decrapified it.. Deleted event service and shared library which made the s and fn function not working.
Installing event service and shared library made it work again.

    So maybe yours will too?

Sony Vaio Hotkeys, Screen Brightness & PowerPanel

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SONY VAIO LAPTOP 'HOTKEYS'
WHY AM I WRITING THIS GUIDE?
I am writing this guide to help people looking for information on setting up the 'Hotkeys' on various Sony Vaio laptops. The 'Hotkeys' are secondary functions that are symbolised in blue on your laptop keyboard across various F-keys. The 'Hotkeys' are accessed in conjunction with the FN key. These functions control basic but essential settings such as screen brightness, volume levels, monitor out etc etc.

I recently needed to setup the hotkeys on a Sony Vaio Z505AP laptop following a fresh install. I spent quite a time searching for information & drivers across various websites & forums. It quickly became apparent that a lot of people were having problems with the same task so I felt writing this guide would be helpful to others & save them alot of time.

The process will vary from each Vaio model but this should hopefully save you a lot of time and make the task easier. For the two Vaio models (Z505AP & Z600LEK) I recently set the Hotkeys up on, the process is similar and the theory the same.

    WHAT TO INSTALL?
To get the Hotkeys working your Vaio laptop requires THREE different components/sets of software installed, these are:

    'Hotkey drivers'
    'Sony Shared Library'
    'Sony Utils'

Once you install these three components & restart your Vaio laptop your Hotkeys should be working. These are all unobtrusive files that will only enhance your Vaio machine however alternatively you can install Sony's Powerpanel or Batteryscope programs to perform the similar features.

Most these files are written for specific Vaio models however there is some overlapping and files from similar Vaio models may work with your own laptop.

    WHERE TO FIND THESE FILES?
There are various online resources relating to this topic however the best place to find these files is the one below.

    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/VAIO/ORIGINAL

Using that site, find your model number & download the relevant 'Utilities' file. You might also find useful the link below, which may help with this task and/or others (including RAM upgrade advice etc)

    http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk

It took many reinstalls to work out the order and what programmes needed to be installed to get the hotkeys working & I purposefully took hours doing so, noting each step I made so this guide could be written and save time for others.

    WAS THIS GUIDE USEFUL?
I find the above links invaluable and hope you do too. I hope this guide has been useful, I know it might save you hours upon hours so, if so, please reflect by selecting YES below at the question "Was this guide helpful?"
