Your AMD system has more CPU power. However, you seem to be rarely using the CPU power. (you can verify this with Taskmanager, check CPU utilization).

G series has faster disk (SSD) and more memory. You are multitasking so 2GB might come in handy.

My guess: the G series will be a litle bit faster than your AMD system with the apps you are using.

If you use a lot of CPU hungry apps (wich you dont seem to be doing) , your AMD system will be faster.

But realize any system will be even more quick if you install XP.

Oh, i forgot to mention that I would like to use Vista on the G but i am using XP on my current desktop.

So, if both got XP then G would be much faster but having Vista on the G will make it little faster? :)

No, under both OS i think G will be a little bit faster than your AMD, as long as you are not fully utilizing your CPU.

If you do, the story will be the other way around.

SP1 for Vista should be out eventually. A version of it was leaked, which showed a marked performance increase.

You can use XP for now, and upgrade to Vista once SP1 is out (there will also be a SP3 of XP). This is from what I have read, anyway.

As long as you are not fully utilizing your CPU, Core 2 Duo won't do you any good.

So check how often you fully utilize your CPU.

Yes, performance, CPU, and CPU use history.
Run, for your standards, heavy mutlitasking with the apps you typically use.
