My sony vaio is a few years old and runs XP professional. It got wet, I kept it turned off for a few days. When I turned it on, at the start of the boot process it emitted a high pitched sound (like when you're holding down a key for too long). If I press any key, it boots up. However when I click on Start, or any icon on the desktop, it behaves erratically trying to select everything on the start menu or all the icons on the desktop until I hit the escape key. It then works normally. A couple keys on the right of the keyboard isnt functioning. I took it to the shop and the guy said it is probably the keyboard OR the motherboard. Is there anything I can do to diagnose whether it's one or the other or both? Thanks.

You could remove your keyboard and you could try an external keyboard. May be a computer shop could allow you to borrow one if you don't own one.
