I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FS93S laptop. It is about 4-5 years old. I bought it in Thailand so I think it is a Sony Asian region model.

I installed Windows 7 on it today without any problems. It runs fine, but I am having some driver problems as expected. Even though there are a couple of red lights in the Device Manager, all my hardware is working fine except for the wireless network card. I don’t mind the errors in the Device Manager as long as everything works somehow. But I also can’t get the function keys working on the laptop, which I would like to have working too.

I called Sony in Thailand and they said the laptop is too old so Sony won’t be supporting it with new drivers for Windows 7.

Are there any Windows 7 drivers from other Vaio models which might be compatible with my laptop?

    Many thanks…

If you can go to the Device Manager and get the Hardware ID's or a device name, I can get you drivers for the wireless card. Now about the FN keys, you'll need Sony Shared Library, Sony Notebook Utilities, those two will give you back your FN keys. Also, did you install Win7 32-bit or 64-bit? I'll see if I can find you the Sony utilities also..

You can try installing vista drivers. When I upgraded my old hp to win 7 it also had some issues with some buttons, and the vista drivers were able to make it work for the most part.

Many thanks for that. You are quite kind to help. After making this post I tried hooking up the laptop to a hard cable to my router and got the internet working. Then in Windows 7 I went into Devices & Printers and ran a troubleshoot on the laptop. It identifed some driver problems and miraculously was able to download the driver it seems for the wireless network card and seems to have fixed that. I still however have two conflicts in the Device Manager even though all seems to be running right.

One of the conflicts says Mass Storage Controller and I think that might be the driver for the built in Memory Stick Pro card reader. The other conflict refers to the Video Controller, but the display seems to be running fine, although it cant display some of the new 3D screen savers in Windows 7 and I am not sure if that is because the driver is missing or if it is because my hardware isn't up to snuff.

I put in the 32Bit version. If you can find the Sony Shared Library, Sony Notebook Utilities for it somewhere that would be wonderful too.

Again, many thanks. At least I got everything running more or less now and if you can find drivers for that stuff it would be much appreciated.

Also, I no longer seems to be able to put the laptop into sleep mode as I could before with Windows XP. I only have the option of hibernate or full shut down. Sleep was a nice feature to have as well.

    Cheers... Marc

Cheers for that. Unfortunately nothing on the model support page to support Windows 7 though.

The Sony Windows 7 Drivers look good though. I am wondering how I can figure out which ones I would need for my machine?

Cheers for that. 2 More quick questions:

1 - How can I check to see if mine has the intel integrated graphics?

2 - Which of the above will enable function keys?

3 - By the way, is there an Audio driver as well?

According to these specs, I'd say it does - System Specs

    All of them.

But it's not guaranteed to work.
