Specs: Sony Vaio FZ Series Notebook
    Model: PCG-3A4L
    Windows Vista

I came home to this problem. When I press the power button, the computer goes directly to the Windows Error Recovery screen and regardless to what option I click on (Start Windows Normally, Safe Mode +) It goes directly to the screen with the little green bars running on the bottom of the screen with "Microsoft Corp" on the bottom of it, as if it were to boot up, but it just stays there.

The Windows Error Recovery Screen reads:

    Windows Error Recovery
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

    1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
    2. Choose your language setting and then click next
    3. Click repair your computer

I don't have the windows install disc because this computer was given to me with just battery cord. Someone in my family used the computer before I got home and no one will say who it is.

I've looked through different forums for help with this. I can't seem to find anything for my specific model. Can anyone please help?

Do you still have the recovery partiton installed? If so you could just press F8 or F10 to reinstall your OS.
I don't know where you live but you can buy FZ recovery discs from Sony service sales in the US, this is the link. Nextronics sell them as well i think.
