Okay so I got a sony vaio laptop that's broken and needs fixing. The hard drive needs to be fixed. That's easy. But the lcd is not being displayed when I power it on. So it could be just a simple inverter replacement, or it might be the ccfl tube so the entire lcd basically.....
Does anyone know if the fan is supposed to spin when u first power it on? Like my acer laptop, when I first turn it on, the fan will make that loud noise and then stop after and continue booting up. Cuz when press the power button no fan spins at all. Also the lights that near the power button u press to turn on the laptop does not light up.
Can an acer LP154W01 lcd replace a sony LP154WX4 lcd? Both are made by LG so can I transfer the LCDS and see if it's the inverter thats faulty itself?

Sounds like there's a lot wrong here. The fan is supposed to spin, yes, just not full blast like the acer's do on startup. And by the LCD not coming on... can you see anything? Can you put it up to a light and see anything.. like a blinking cursor at the top left or can you see it post? If so then the CCFL tube or the backlight inverter could be bad. If you don't see anything at ALL, then it may have a dead motherboard or just a dead LCD panel. If all this other stuff is happening at the level I think it is, it will cost you more to fix it then it would to just buy a new notebook...

When I first turn on my acer notebook the fan spins for a second or two then nothing. Are all laptops like this?
I cannot see anything on the lcd. With my acer laptop I can turn off the backlight cuz theres a manual button and u can still see the faint image of the lcd working without the backlight. So I am assuming the inverter doesn't work. Or the ccfl.
I removed the hard drive from this acer laptop and had it in hibernation with music playing and having it on duplicate display mode. I was hoping to put this hard drive into the sony laptop and when it boots up at least I could tell music was playing or see if the duplicate displays on a vga output source but nothing. So, I'm assuming this is internal damage to the motherboard that's not worth fixing at all?
Is it possible I can take out the t3200 dual core 2ghz chip out of there and put it in my acer 1.6 c2d t5200 laptop? -

Well if you can see something on the Sony's LCD then you have a chance of fixing it... It could be either the CCFL or the Inverter Board, because both would cause the backlight to go out if they failed. Second, you can't take the HDD from the Acer and put it in the Sony and expect it to work. The Windows installation that's on the HDD for the Acer has the drivers installed for the Acer and will not function without a clean install on the Sony. And about the processor, yes. It will be a pretty good upgrade actually. Just make sure if you're going to transplant the processor, to ALWAYS put new thermal paste!

Looks like there was nothing wrong with the hard drive at all. Other than the corrupted files that were on it which would screw up while booting up. Just giving it a format and fresh install of windows and it works fine.
Next test is to remove the sony lcd. And take the 2 prong plug that powers the backlight and feed it into the acer inverter and see if it powers the backlight. Then I'll at least know the ccfl tube works fine.

So plugging just the ccfl tube plug in the vaio laptop. The backlight works. So the inverter is faulty itself. That and or the motherboard.
When I turn it on the vaio it's quite silent, no fan spinning and if I jam keys it won't make that beeping noise. -
Okay so on the vaio, the lcd's ccfl tube powers on with a working inverter.
The job of the inverter is to convert the voltage, to light up the ccfl tube...so without the inverter working. I should still get a image through the LCD.
So... with the lcd lid removed and me turning off the lights and shining a light through the lcd. There is no image. It's safe to say the motherboard has been damaged? -

Well, you say that there are no lights coming on, you can't see it post through the BIOS, and the fan isn't spinning. Are you sure it's not a power problem? When you plug it up what happens? Does the battery charge? Try taking the battery out and plugging it in and starting it up.
