    Just gotten this laptop off a friend's hand;

    Now, the specifications are as follow;
    Processor 1.6GHz Intel Atom Intel Z530
    Memory 2GB, 533MHz DDR2
    Hard drive 64GB SSD
    Chipset Mobile Intel 945GSE
    Graphics Intel GMA 500 (integrated)
    Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium
    Dimensions 245 x 120mm
    Height 19.8mm
    Screen size (diagonal) 8.0 inches
    System weight (Weight with AC adapter) 594g (773g)
    Category Netbook
    Wifi/ Bluetooth / Webcam / Lan Adaptor

    My question is;
    Can you install Windows 7 or 8 on it?
    I mean, would it run fine? Or will it be like super slow or stuff?

    Also, is the other version of the sony vaio P with the Processor Intel Atom CPU Z450 @ 1.86GHz better?
    (Better in a sense that has longer battery life?)
    (Or will it be faster but consumes more battery?)

    honestly the atom are so S L O WWWW that different between 1.66, 1.86 is negligible or even 1.33

    you can install both windows 7 and 8. You will be fine with either machine running either operating system, Windows 8 will run little smother from my experience.

    Also do take into consideration you will be serially limited in what you can do with such a machine, just basic office, typing and surfing, emails but i manage to run matlab and Visual studio just for learning purposes not actually doing serious simulations. Also youtube videos can be choppy at higher quality settings.

    give it a try and see if the performance is adequate for you, its different for everyone but definitely upgrade from the window vista on there, vista is a hog.

    Thank you for your response.

    Will Windows XP run faster on this machine or Windows 8?

    I dont intend to play games on this one.
    Just basic work and multimedia watching :)

    Yes it would but you will be very limited with what you can do with XP, specially for application and so on.

    For basic work its fine but for multimedia watching, it really depends on what you are doing. I would also advise on upgrading the hard drive to SSD, its very easy to do on the vaio p and you will get much better performance out of it.

    Okay, I just installed windows 8.1 on it. (32 bit)
    Seems to run fine aside from the slight lag.
    Anything I can do to improve this?

    As for the upgrade, where can I purchase the additional HDD?
    Also, any video links to the upgrade once I got it?
