hi guys, i've just recently acquired a Sony Vaio with the model listed in the title, and needed some help in finding out how i can change the operating system back to windows. it currently is running on Linux, and i bought it used and came with no OS discs. there isn't anything really wrong with that, i'm just more used to windows. or you guys think maybe Linux is better than windows and i should give it a chance??? i've just never used it before and been hearing some things about it like it's better than windows, somewhat like apple's OS. just need some input ;)

2nd questions is, the mouse pad isn't working on it so i wanted to buy the parts and fix it myself, but couldn't find any manuals or tutorials on how to take apart the palm rest part of it.

thanks in advance for any help guys :)

Firstly if you are running Linux it may be that the correct drivers are not installed for the touchpad.
Secondly if you want to go back to the Windows version that was pre-installed on it, you would need to find out if the hidden backup partition is still there. You could download from Sony the operating manual and find out how to activate the recovery program. It may be by tapping the F11 key at startup - or another key. If the partition is still there and the correct key is pressed during startup the program should run ok. See how that goes first.

alright that makes some sense, i appreciate the answer ;)

i gave that a shot but while in that mode, i couldn't find an old windows OS, it on showed Linux as the 2 options so i'm assuming that it got deleted when they installed the Linux. think i might just try to find the OS discs for it, hopefully someone has them

Your Vaio would have come with a recovery partition - and the ability to create your own recovery discs, if you didn't well, then either pay for recovery discs or spend money on a new Windows Disc (which comes with a new license).

You could use a normal OS disc - it would work, but again you'd need the drivers which you can download from Sony's website.

i'm having trouble getting into the recovery partition, i've been trying with no luck yet. it'll only go as far as the boot screen where it asks if i want to load linux or linux (safe mode ).
