I have a second hand Sony Vaio PCG-6B1l. When I turn it on, it is looking for a BIOS password. How do I get past this to be able to use my Notebook? Is there a program I need to get? Please help. Thanks.

First thing to try is to ask the person you got the laptop from to supply the password. If that is not possible then you'll have to either get some software to clear it (a search online will lead you to several, though some may be of dubious nature and messing with the BIOS can be fatal to a machine), or to open up the machine and pop out the CMOS battery. To do this you'll have to open up the machine and look for it inside - check the disassembly links on the forum, though the model is quite old so it may not have a page. I've done an image search and it looks like your battery will be a penny sized disc, wrapped in plastic insulator with a pair of wires leading to the motherboard. Just gently ease the connector out of the board, leave it out for 5 mins then reattach and that should've cleared the password from the BIOS.

    Good luck!
