Hi I am totaly new to this site so I hope I am posting in the correct place.

My problem is that my Sony Vaio powers up with the charger connected and have no problems but when I try to power up with battery only (charger removed) the system boots up right into Windows Vista but after only 3-5 min the system powers down, just swiches off no lights no screen and when I try to power back up nothing happens I have then to attach the charger to power back up when it does it goes to Windows safe mode from there I can boot as normal.
I have tried a new battery still does the same, also noticed that when charger is attached and system running normaly charge indication is shown on screen.

Has any one got any fix for this ??

It could be new battery also dead.
Your laptop issue mostly caused by battery issue.
Do you see battery getting charge or battery light blinking?

You said Vista do you mean Win 7, it is possible that your orignal battery is old and needs replacing if you're using vista still that is why it is not holding a charge. Are you using genuine sony replacement battery or a generic one as newer systems will power down if you are not using original Sony battery? Also possible that there is something wrong with the charging circuit on your motherboard.

Hi Guys and sorry for late reply I was away from home and just back.

Yes my OS is "Windows Vista Home Edition"
When I put the new battey on charge (system not powered up) I do see the flashing light on the front of Laptop and goes out when fully charged, when charged I unpluged the charger powered up the Laptop and it boots to Windows with no errors when completed I hovered mouse pointer over the battery icon (bottom right of screen) and it shows 100% charge when I check 2-3 min later its at 97% then 5 min from power up it at 78% then Laptop powers down and the only way I can power up again is by plugging the charger in and it powers up to "safe option window" where I can select "safe mode" or "start windows normally" I can do either "safe" or "normal" with no errors when I restart laptop with charger still attached

With the term "new battery", did you mean it is a brand new battery you just bought or just a used or a different battery you got somewhere else.
The issue you are experiencing is most likely caused by battery issue.

If your battery is losing charge that fast, then it is either wornout, old or defective! You can try calibrating the battery, but I think both of your batteries are worn out.
