I have a Sony Vaio PCG-V505EX. I lost the power supply to it so I bought a new one. After buying the new one it did not charge the laptop. So I bought a new battery and the laptop turned on only for the duration of the life of the new battery because it wasn't charging.

So I took apart the laptop and replaced where the power supply connects to. The laptop was now able to charge the battery but then the laptop would not turn on. I then replaced the video card because that's where the power connector connects to. Now the laptop still won't turn on and the battery LED is blinking amber.

I did some research and apparently the blinking LED means the battery is no good. So I bought another battery and still the same blinking LED occurs. When I try to turn the laptop on, the green power LED turns on along with the battery light but nothing happens. The laptop won't turn on. I do not know what else I should try to get this laptop up and running. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I can try next?

    Thanks,
    JackieT387

What comes to mind is maybe the power supply you bought was defective or possibly the wrong model. Can you exchange the power supply?

I actually thought the same thing and I've actually bought 3 of them since I've troubleshooted the laptop and I've bought 2 other batteries and I still have the original one and with all 3 batteries the amber battery LED blinks. I just don't know what to try next.

If you still have the old video card, put it back in and try different combinations of the battery and power supply. The new video card may be causing part of the problem.

Instead of using the old video card I bought a new one. After replacing that the battery light still blinks amber. I find it hard to believe that all three of my batteries are dead :-/

And you are sure the hard drive is in good working order ? My V505DC1 had this problem when the hard drive died. Just thought I'd ask. If you can't find a solution, I might be able to help with a V505 that needs a hard drive and a new battery and since you have a new battery and your hard drive is probably good, we might be able to discuss other options via PM.

So you think by replacing the HD it will solve the problem of the flashing amber battery light?

Installing a new hard drive was the fix for the flashing lights to get my V505 working again. In my situation, the battery light was flickering and the hard drive light was flashing as it was trying to turn on but wouldn't. Is it the original hard drive ? Is it a fairly new hard drive ? Does your computer make any low pitched sounds when attempting to turn it on or is it completely quiet ? It could be something else totally unrelated. Did you buy the computer second hand and if so, was it working okay when you first got it ? That computer is pretty old as it was released at the end of 2003 or in your case, the V505EX series in early 2004. It could be something else. It's difficult to say.

I replaced the hard drive and still have the flashing battery light when it's charging. The computer doesn't make any low pitched sounds. When you attempt to turn it on I get the green power light and the amber battery light then they shut off. I received the laptop from a friend and before I replaced the dc power connector it would turn on but you would get the blue screen of death before it shut off because the battery was dead.

Sorry you are not able to resolve the issue. It's a really nice notebook. I have had my V505DC1 since Nov. 2003 and have only had to replace the battery and hard drive after the first couple years. And I sent it in once to Sony for a motherboard replacement. If not for the hard drive going out again and needing another battery, I'd fix mines but I have it sitting in the box in " retirement. " Good luck as who knows what the problem is with your V505.
