My friend has a Sony Vaio laptop, pcg61611l, I believe the other number is VPCEE....
Running Windows 7 Home. The problem is a blank screen on startup most of the time, at best it might start up properly one out of 20-30 times. The green light on the
startup button comes on, and the DVD drive makes some noise. Oddly enough, when it does start up, it works fine.

I have reseated the RAM, (and also reversed the RAM chips)
Someone mentioned there is a "sleep button" on this thing.
I have reflowed an Nvidia chip on ANOTHER computer, so I am aware of that potential problem.
I have taken the battery out and held the power button on for >60 seconds.
I have removed the USB wireless mouse thing (and all other peripherals).
One time when it did start, I rebooted with a Linux Puppy disk, and it booted fine.
It won't boot normally with Puppy Linux.
Someone has reported success with turning the machine on and immediately opening the DVD drive
Someone has mentioned the problem may be in the bios, something about "auto" regarding the LCD (haven't had a chance to try this)
I have considered the inverter and backlight, but the thing comes on (perfectly) occasionaly
    I have tried pressing F2 F8 F10 F12 when turning on
I have tried an external monitor (but only once, and in a hurry at their house)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i have model vpcee31fx, i think the source of the problem is either the video card or the cable that plugs into the monitor. if you let the right side of the laptop hang over the edge of the table and push down towards the ground on top of the right side of the screen (pyshically bending the entire laptop (they're pretty durable lol im to the point that the keyboard pops off from being twisted so hard)) during start up you'll find it starts fine most of the time. I've been using this method for about 6 months now. progressively getting worse, probably due to my "hit-it-until-it-works" method of fixing things :)

i got the laptop second hand from a careless person, who got it second hand from a careless person so i can't complain about sonys quality. prior to the black screen issue my hdmi output was hit or miss. sometimes it would work sometimes it doesnt. now the hdmi port works better since ive started twisting the laptop (but not when the screen stays black)

my screen also goes black while im using it everyonce in a while and i just twist it and voila it works for another couple hours like a beast

Hey, thanks so much for the reply, I'll try it when I can (it's across the street, and they are very good friends, but they are very busy). Seems like there should be a fix for that cable, if I find it I'll let you know

Anybody else out there know about the cable that plugs into the monitor, and a better fix??????

    Thanks again C

    Hi,
I have a VAIO VPCEE4E1E and does not turn on normaly. When I try to turn it on with both power adapter and battery , green light flashing for 2sec and turning off. If I unplug the battery and plug olny the adapter , works. BUT... when I Shutting down and try to turning on again doing the same thing. If I unplug the adapter, leave it without power for 15 sec and plug only the adapter, works. I dont understand were is the fault.
    Any ideas ?

I have the exact same problem and have tried everything mentioned here and nothing made the problem go away. However, I did find that if I change out the RAM with new sticks the problem went away for awhile but then came back. I went to Sony's site and downloaded the BIOS update and flashed my machine. The update mentions it fixes RAM issues and non-start blank screen problems. So, new memory and flashing the BIOS and so far my machine is booting perfectly. Will update this thread if it changes. Hope that helps and I agree Sony tech is useless. Can't understand how they get away with stuff like this but for me I will never buy Spny again.
