    Hello,

I bought a Sony Vaio Pro 13 just before Sony announced that they would discontinue their Vaio lines.
Everything has been working like a dream still and i even upgraded win 7 to win 10 without any problems.

Today though, i suddenly had a slippery hand and dropped the laptop on the table (about a 10 cm fall).

Upon powering on the laptop, the screen remained black, although i could see the pc itself was running and booting normally.
The screen remained black and only sporadically i could see the actual 'screen' flash 1 or 2 seconds and then it goes black again.

I restarted the laptop etc. and nothing worked.
On boot, the screen just appeared to flicker a lot with some horizontal green lines here and there but the screen would go black most of the time.

Hooked it up to an external monitor and everything is fine and i could see the screen.

I tried doing a duplicate screen or screen extension but none of it shows the screen on the laptop itself.
When identifying the screen only the external monitor is detected.

IS there any way that the screen can be fixed and what would likely be the problem?
Would it be a component that can be replaced or does it need actual service?

Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance!

    Additional info.

I think the display adapter is screwed up since i can still login to my desktop through teamviewer and notice that the screen resolution keeps switching as well.
I thought it might be the driver messing things up, but if it was... the screen wouldn't be flickering during boot

Anyone else ever experienced something similar?

    Thank you in advance

It is quite possible the lcd cable has been dislodged slightly from its socket due to the shock. These connectors are rather flimsy at the lcd side, so even as little as 1mm offset would cause distortions or no image at all. Remove the bezel and check if re-seating the cable does the trick.

The adapter is fine, otherwise you wouldn't have an image on the external monitor. Also, it's an iGPU, so if failed then the cpu would be dead as well. Hence it's either the lcd or the lcd cable.

Thank you for your reply t456!

I really hope it is a dislodged cable, but i tried flipping the screen back and forward to see if it made any change to the screen.
But it didn't work as the screen just behaved in a consistent way.

The thing that worries me is that it kept switching resolutions ... maybe it was the cable causing problems too.

Anyway, i found a service center in the neighborhood who is able to fix the pc..
    We'll see how it goes

Small update for the ones interested.

Went to the local Sony support center and the laptop is now in repair.
They mentioned that the screen needs to be replaced and will be shipped from Singapore.
Cost is around USD 477 (including labor cost)
Quite a steep price but felt as i did not have any other choice as the laptop itself is still in good condition etc.

Typical Sony rip off operation. They don't even accept the easiest repair jobs; they directly want to replace stuff whatever part it is. I think it is probable that this way they gather many parts that are in relatively good condition from the customers back and sell them after refurbishing.

I had some problems with the F key and then the whole keyboard broke down. I found a new one (not an original Sony but practically the same thing); bought it for $15 and replaced the old one according to some guy's how-to instructions on the web. Worked well. And then out of curiosity I called Sony Service Center. They told me that they didn't have it in stock and they are not sure if they could find it. But if they could find the part I had to wait a considerable amount of time, like some weeks and that it will cost me like approx. $150. I don't know a word that is expressive enough for characterizing this type of corporate ripoff behaviour.
