Hi,
Love the new laptop.
However, the HD4400 is just a little below my comfort level in terms of power. I'm hoping for a better chip, like the HD5000.
After searching on Google and calling sony, I am still not sure if that will be offered in the near future.
Has anyone heard otherwise?
- Thanks!

I wouldn't have thought so. It's far too thin to provide adequate cooling & the HD5000 will run a lot hotter than the HD4400.

Actually, I feel that their choice of CPU is restricted more by the availability of Haswell chips with HD5000 (which Intell seems to be prioritizing Apple over anyone else) than thermal concerns. That probably is why they are keeping HD5000 ones with their flagship CTO Duo 13s...So, I wound't be surprised if we end up seeing Pro 13 with HD5000. They probably will limit TDP up on Duo 13, though.

The Asus Infinity has a 5100 GPU so I don't think thinness is the issue.

If you look at NVIDIA GPUs and compare the speed of the memory bus to the processing power of the GPU, you typically see about 0.125 bytes/s of memory bandwidth per instruction/s of processing power.
For Intel GPUs, the GT2 is 0.145 bytes/s per instruction/s, but that's shared between the GPU AND the CPU. The GT3 is only 0.073 bytes/s per instruction/s and again that's shared with the CPU.
The other issue is thermal throttling with the 15W TDP. AnandTech had a good article about this. AnandTech | A Look at Intel HD 5000 GPU Performance Compared to HD 4000 Basically the GT3 can easily use up the entire 15W TDP that is supposed to be shared with the CPU and PCH.
So there's very little performance difference between HD 4400 and HD 5000 (certainly not double). And Sony charges a much higher price for the upgrade (i.e. lots of profit, at least on the Duo) than Apple does on the MacBook Air. Maybe performance is the reason Sony doesn't currently offer HD5000 on the Pro? -
The air does have the 5000, to be clear. So it's not a matter of battery or thinness

sorry, that - DUO
